17 Things Only Engineers With A Non-Engineering Job Will Relate To

That’s right, Mom and Dad! Non-engineering jobs exist!

    1. Your degree is literally just a piece of paper at this point.

    2. But that doesn’t stop your family from expecting you to fix all the faulty electronics at home.

    3. Speaking of family, you’ve made peace with the fact that you’ll always have one close relative who still introduces you as an engineer.

    4. Or holds out hope that your career switch is temporary and you’ll get back to a “stable” engineering job one day.

    5. On the other end of the spectrum, you have friends and acquaintances who applaud you for the “brave” and “bold” decision to switch fields.

    6. It blows your mind that technically, you can put “Er.” at the beginning of your name.

    7. To be fair, you can still relate to a majority of Engineering memes.

    MEMES.

    Happy #EngineersDay to future MBAs.

    8. But for all intents and purposes, your professional skill sets have NOTHING to do with your undergrad qualifications.

    9. So at least some part of your resumé is not the most ~relevant~ to your current profile.

    10. You have a ton of friends who ~did~ use their degree, so you still kind of understand industry jargon.

    11. But your knowledge of coding, electronics, mechanics, and basically anything else degree-related has rapidly faded with each passing year.

    12. The one thing those four years did teach you was how to pull an all-nighter, and that’s a pretty useful skill, tbh.

    13. You work really well under pressure, most likely due to the fact that for FOUR whole years you were able to do ALL your assignments last minute AND get away with it.

    14. Also, your problem-solving skills are next level, which make you great at resolving crises in your current line of work.

    15. Your engineer friends are super supportive of your career change, because, well they’re your engineer friends. Anyone who went to an engineering college in India knows that following your passion should NEVER be taken for granted.

    16. And you always have a great career story to tell your non-engineer friends.

    17. Above all, you’re glad you made the switch, because no matter what, you know you’re doing something you’ve chosen for yourself…and that is powerful.
