    20 Ways To Get Involved Before Your 20's

    Getting involved can open doors to new experiences and life lessons, you don't have to travel far to find places where people need your help. You can change someones life across the world or across the street.

    1. Homeless shelters: If you live in a city of any kind there are people who need your help. Whether its helping with meals or giving them a place to sleep, shelters are always looking for volunteers!

    2. Salvation Army: An organization that provides social services, disaster services among many other opportunities that give people chances to volunteer and help people around the country.

    3. Red Cross: Provides help to people in emergencies, it can be one child or thousands of people in another country, you can find different ways to get involved.

    4. Animal shelters: Not only do humans need your help but animals do too! You can volunteer at any shelter near by, they're always looking for helpful hands to take care of their furry friends!

    5. Hospitals: Hospitals are always looking for volunteers to help patents in and out of the hospital setting.

    6. Ronald McDonald House: "When a child is seriously ill, the child is frequently treated for long periods of time at a hospital or university medical center. Many families have to travel long distances to get to the hospital, and "where to stay" becomes a problem. Staying at a hotel becomes extremely expensive. Ronald McDonald Houses provide a low-cost "home-away-from-home" for parents and children to stay during treatment. Volunteers help prepare meals, talk to families, take care of the house."

    7. Special Olympics: The Special Olympics is a program where children and adults with disabilities participate in athletic training and competition. They need help with fundraising and planning.

    8. Habitat For Humanity: Is a program that builds and gives houses to poor people in local communities

    9. Food banks: Food banks often work with homeless shelters, but they also serve poor people living in the community (especially around the holidays).

    10. Senior citizens center: Many senior citizen centers offer volunteer programs to provide friendship/ companionship and community activities to senior citizens.

    11. United Way: United Way is a nationwide umbrella organization for thousands of charitable organizations. With this you will be able to get involved some how.

    12. Libraries: Some libraries need volunteers to help run kids programs or even putting the books back on the shelves.

    13. Environmental organizations: You can even volunteer through The Sierra Club, which helps with many different environmental activities.

    14. Donate lightly used toys: You can donate lightly used toys to children's hospitals for kids to play with or second hand stores where people can buy your toys at a lower price.

    15. Helping others learn to read: There are people of all ages and abilities that my need help when it comes to reading and learning how to read, and you have the chance to help them learn an important skill.

    16. Donate clothes: Any second-hand clothing store always is willing to take donations, just make sure that it is clothing that is still in good shape, no rips or stains.

    17. Become a volunteer tutor: There are students of every age and skill level that may need help with school work. You can offer whatever subject you're good at and be able to teach a student and help them practice and study.

    18. Run or walk: volunteer to run or walk for a cause like Relay for Life or Race for the Cure!

    19. Clean up: you can volunteer to help clean up a park, river, or beach.

    20. DoSomething.org: You can choose the cause you're passionate about, specify your availability, and select the type of service in which you want to participate!
