I'm just going to cut right to the chase: This week, we received our first trailer for the last film in The Purge franchise — aptly titled The Forever Purge — and Y'ALL, it looks wild:
In a twist on the standard Purge story, the trailer actually begins at the end of The Purge. That familiar siren sounds overhead while the same voice we've been hearing for almost 10 years now assures the country that The Purge has ended and all crime is, once again, illegal.
Then, we see something else we never really get a glimpse at: what the day AFTER The Purge looks like, which appears to consist mostly of...cleanup.
But this is a horror movie, after all, so the serene calm can only last for so long, and things quickly get absolutely terrifying when Adela (Ana de la Reguera) notices something odd about a lil' goat in a cage:
As it turns out, there's a group of people who very much don't want The Purge to end, ever. They'd very much like for all crime to be legal always — which, yes, does defeat the entire point of The Purge.
Also, tangent, but — there are so many terrifying masks in this three-minute trailer, y'all. Like this one:
And this one:
And finally, whatever TF this one is:
The stacked cast also includes the likes of Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas, Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Alejandro Edda, and Will Patton!
And the film was written by James DeMonaco — the creator of the franchise and a screenwriter on each and every one of the films — and promises to be a "really cool ending" to the series.
So, yeah, there ya have it! Check out what's sure to be a heck of a franchise finale when The Forever Purge is released on July 2!
