It's Official That Latino Representation Is Dismally Low And We Have The Stats To Prove It

    Más, por favor?

There is not enough Latino representation in Hollywood, according to a new study.

Researchers looked at the 100 top grossing films between 2007 and 2018 and found that only 3% of films featured leads with Latino actors.

They determined that the most frequently-hired Latino actors were Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Eugenio Derbez and Jessica Alba.

In fact, there was only one lead cast in the past 10 years that was 45 years old or older and that was none other than Jennifer Lopez.

One disturbing trend was that almost half (47%) of the movies sampled totally erased Latino-speaking characters.

Another bummer was that 24% of roles that went to Latinos were for playing criminals or violent offenders.

The results were just as dire for Latinos behind the camera, with only 28 directors between 2007 and 2018.

In a nutshell, this study proved we still have a long way to go when it comes to Latino representation in movies and TV.
