17 Stages Of Getting Attached To A Musical Theatre Show

Every single morning, you have their entire Original Broadway/Off-Broadway/West End Cast album blasting up from your speakers. You probably spend 80% or your life worshipping your favourite cast of your favourite character in that certain musical. There's an enormous life-sized poster of them hung next to your bed. That's when you find yourself in the point of no return. You think you need help. Don't we all? But how did it start?

1. You heard about the show for the first time.

They could be from your castmates, or a fellow thespian. Chances are, the local community or school theatre just announced them for the next musical production. Your first reaction? "oh, let me just add it to the list of musicals I'm going to watch."

2. You finally decided to do a little research on the show before watching it.

Tony-winning? Sherie Rene Scott AND Norbert Leo Butz? You officially won my heart.

3. You empty your schedule to watch the show.

If it's currently playing in your local theatre or you're wealthy enough to book tickets to New York or London, lucky you. Otherwise, you would still dedicate your entire weekend to find online bootlegs and bask in the glory of illegal recordings.

4. You watch the show. You're having the time of your life.

OOOH did she just belt B5?? Wow that is one intense scene. AHAHA why is this character so hilarious. I have to get that role one day.

5. You fall in love with the characters, the music, or the plot. Or all of them. Basically, the whole show in general.

Maybe that lady who just belted that ridiculously high note is just too amazing to handle. Maybe you relate to this one character so much that you're beginning to feel they made this musical based on your life. Maybe the plot is hauntingly hilarious or sad. Or dark. Or all of them. How did I live before this show came into my life??

6. You listen to the entire album recording whenever and wherever you go.

Everything else in the iTunes library suddenly becomes irrelevant.

7. You finds yourself unconsciously singing the songs or saying random lines from the musical in public.

No, I'm not crazy. I'm just very, very attached to this one musical.

8. You find yourself a dream role.

Which you eventually becomes really passionate about. You practise their lines every day because you never know what will happen. You'd gladly slap anyone who diss that character. And, yes, you will totally murder someone for that role.

9. You defend your favourite character with your life.

"She's completely misunderstood. That guy is a total dick. No more discussion."

10. You compare every version of your favourite songs in the show.

"Um, she's pitchy. I like the original one better." This is inevitable. But once you find a version that is actually a lot better than the original recording, you will have higher expectation of any other cover of the songs. they better be THAT good

11. You worship your favourite cast in the show.

And you know you will probably vomit or get nausea or even pass out if you actually get a chance to meet them.

12. You propose the show to your local community theatre.

You don't care if Book Of Mormon has the rudest plot and foulest language in the whole theatre world, you just want a chance to play Elder Cunningham.

13. When a local company hold an audition for that show, you go crazy.

In the case that you get the understudy for your favourite role, you might as well begin plotting to poison the lead.

14. You go nuts when they produce the film version of that show.

Is this the real life. Is this just fantasy. Please someone wake me up.

15. Every time the director of that show make new productions, you make a pledge to watch them even if you don't like them that much.

And freak out every time you find similar notes to those favourite scene in your favourite show you've been playing in your head 24/7.

16. When you find someone who likes the same musical, it feels like finding your other half.

Bonus point if the show is very obscure, and they like you too. They could be your powerhouse BFF whom you can cover songs with, or even potential S.O.

17. You constantly finds yourself alone, listening to the same recordings or watching the same musical for what seems like the millionth time, and fall in love all over and over again.

How come something be this beautiful? It's the best thing that could ever happen to your life and you know it better than anyone.
