You thought you were going to make a difference for the next generation! Perhaps you harbored the dream of becoming a teacher since you were five-years-old. Perhaps you wanted to fight social injustice through education. Whatever your initial motivation was, you are now fed up with the broken system, parents who don't parent, and the country that blames everything on YOU -- the teacher. 

Are you ready to quit and get the hell out of this wretched career?

Are You Ready To Quit Teaching In Public School?

How often do you actually get to each lunch?

What do you wear to school?

Who is helping you through these terrible first few years of teaching?

Who is your mentor in this profession?

When is the last time you went out like a real adult?

How often do you make copies?

You're not ready to quit just yet. Stick it out for another few years while the system beats the hope out of you.

You still got 1-2 more years left in you!

Maybe you're not ready to walk out just yet, but you're quickly learning to throw away any f\*ck you still got left in you because the more you care, the worse it feels, knowing that you -- as a single, powerless, broke-ass teacher -- cannot change much.

Rude awakening!

You're pretty much done but you're just powering through till the end of the year. You're a walking zombie from sleep deprivation (since you have to coach, after school tutor, attending professional developments, and go to your second job to make the ends meet). "Do it for the kids!" people tell you, and you just want to punch them in their faces or beg them for money so you can pay back your student loan.

You're THIS CLOSE to quitting!

Please do not feel guilty. It is not your fault that every time you asked to buy books for your kids, you got shut down. It's not your fault that your paycheck is tiny (you need to eat too). It's not your fault that your kids are coming from terrible, broken situations, not knowing how to read or write. You tried really hard -- you gave up your evenings to grade; you gave up your money to buy kids books and supplies; you gave up your weekends to lesson plan. Don't feel like you're a terrible human being. You are just human. You are only human.   
Find happiness. Find a new job that allows you to use the restroom when you need to go. Find a job where you can enjoy a 45 min lunch instead of doing a lunch duty for 45 minutes. Find a job that treats you like a professional. Find a job that pays you fairly. You can still make a difference. Yes, you will miss your students, and yes, you might even regret quitting from time to time. But until this country realizes that this broken, deeply dysfunctional education system isn't about "fixing" or "upgrading" the teachers, you will never be truly happy at your job.

Congrats! You're getting the hell out of this profession!
