Falling foul of local law enforcement is every traveller's nightmare, and ignorance is no defence.
But some Australian laws might surprise you:
· Changing a lightbulb without a license in Victoria risks a $10 fine
· Being drunk in public (even in pubs and bars!) can get you a fine of up to $590
· Refusing to leave a party in South Australia could leave you with a whopping $5,000 fine
But it isn't just Australian laws that catch out travelers. Austravel also surveyed of some of the 680,000 Brits that visit Australia every year, and found out a lot of them are poorly-informed about their destination, for instance:
- 35% didn't know Australian summer coincides with UK winter
- 22% didn't know that the kangaroo is the Australian national animal
