Meet Samson, 28-Pound Cat In New York City

In this case, size does matter.

Samson, a Maine Coon cat who lives in Brooklyn, has earned the title of largest cat in New York City, weighing in at 4 feet long and 28 pounds.

His human, Jonathan Zurbel, is a social media strategist and music producer. Zurbel runs an Instagram account for Samson that is nearing 80,000 followers (@catstradamus).

Despite being an enjoyably large size, Samson is not overweight from overeating, and is in good physical health.

According to Lisa Lippman, a Manhattan-based veterinarian, told the Post that most cats only weight about ten pounds. Although, the average male Maine coon cat weighs around 18 pounds, larger than most breeds.

"He is by far the biggest cat I've ever heard of, especially in New York City," she told the Post.

According to Zurbel, until about a year ago Samson was an average 19 pounds. But, once he hit a growth spurt he began going viral online and quickly becoming one of the internet's new favorite felines.

Photos of the fat cat on his social channels include majestic, well-thought out shots of him, as well as shots of Zurbel holding him, usually to show his size.

According to his Instagram, the four-year-old cat loves naps, snuggles, and treats. At his followship, it doesn't look like Samson is going out of the spotlight anytime soon.
