    Here's How Much Money You'd Need To Make Per Month To Afford Living In The US's Most Populated Cities

    So, out of cat-killing curiosity, I googled how much the average cost of rent is in the US's most populated states, and yeah. It's trash. People are being priced out of their homes, and sometimes numbers are hard to understand at face value, so let's break down exactly how much residents would need to make per month and/or year to live in an average one-bedroom apartment across the States.

    To calculate whether someone can afford rent, most apartments require that an applicant's monthly income be 3x greater than their expected payments. So, for example, if you make $900 a month, your rent should not exceed $300. 

    With this in mind, here are the average costs of rent and expected incomes:

    1. New York City, NY: $11,925 per month or $143,100 a year
