There has been a lot of controversy around the fact that Marvel hired a white man (Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones) to play Danny Rand in its upcoming Netflix series, Iron Fist.

The casting has people feeling all kinds of ways.

Saw the Iron Fist trailer. However the story rationalizes it, a white guy emulating Asian culture while beating up Asian people is racist.

Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, 2nd season of Daredevil. now a white guy in #Mulan as a love interest. I need a bucket to vomit.

Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and about 50% of Daredevil are so good...they really need to just put the brakes on white Iron Fist.

Over the weekend at New York Comic Con, BuzzFeed had the chance to ask Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s executive vice president of television, if they ever considered casting an actor of Asian descent for the role.

After all, Iron Fist was created in 1974 – a time when we didn't think about cultural appropriation the way we do now.

"To answer that, just really flat out, the way the story is told and when people see the story, the importance of Danny as an outsider is something that is a theme that runs throughout the entire show," Loeb responded.

Showrunner Scott Buck did not respond.

Here's the trailer for Iron Fist, which debuted at NYCC this weekend. Make of that what you will, as well.
