You Need To Watch "Jane The Virgin" Right This Second

    1. Gina Rodriguez will literally leave you in awe.

    I don't know what witches Gina Rodriguez visits to give her face the power to make me feel so many things, but I would like to thank them. There's a reason she won that Golden Globe, and there's a reason that her absence from the Emmy nominations this year was a crime against television.

    2. For real, though: You'll fall in love with Rodriguez both onscreen and off.

    Just listen to this woman talk. As she told the Television Critics Association in July 2014: "I didn’t become an artist to be a millionaire. I didn’t become an actor to wear Louis Vuitton. I have to give this dress back when we’re done. I became an actor to change the way I grew up. The way I grew up, I never saw myself on screen. I have two older sisters. One’s an investment banker. The other one is an doctor, and I never saw us being played as investment bankers. And I realized how limiting that was for me. I would look at the screen and think, ‘Well, there’s no way I can do it, because I’m not there.’ And it’s like as soon as you follow your dreams, you give other people the allowance to follow theirs. "

    3. And Jane Villanueva is just waiting to become one of your favorite characters of all time.

    Jane Gloriana Villanueva is in no way a copy of Leslie Knope, but she seems to have come from that same beautiful school of character writing: She is all her own, with idiosyncrasies, hangups, and her own intense need to make everything perfect — and she's the absolute heart of this show, pulling all of these people into the same space and making us root for her (and the rest of them) by the force of her own fierce belief.

    4. The show's concept lends itself to hijinks of the highest degree.

    The show kicks off with Jane being accidentally artificially inseminated, but somehow the show didn't spin off the rails from those beginnings. Instead, it had fun with it. This show takes great pleasure in being half telenovela and half grounded drama, with a healthy dose of comedy thrown in on both sides. It uses its relationship with genre — essentially throwing everything in a blender and hitting "puree" — to take us down side-streets into fantasy sequences that have involved professional wrestling, salsa dancing, kinda-almost musical numbers, and more than a couple hallucinations. It's a good time.

    5. And not just Jane: This show is chock-full of characters to fall madly in love with.

    Jane is the center of the universe, but it's not just her you'll be coming back for. All of the Villanueva women will nestle themselves deep into your heart, alongside the wonderfully egotistical Rogelio De La Vega and the two very different men circling Jane's orbit.

    6. So far the second season is keeping the promises made by the first.

    The heart, the charm, the humor — they're still there. There was some fear among fans that the beauty of the show's shockingly stellar first season couldn't keep up the goodness after the break. Who hasn't watched an amazing show fall to pieces in front of their eyes? And, yes, Jane the Virgin Season 2 is still new. But it's also still just as charming and hilarious and heart-affirming as ever.

    7. It will make you laugh so hard you spit out your tea.

    The next time someone wrongs you or you need a time-out for some exposition, just call up the Latin Lover Narrator in your mind. He's there for you. He's there for all of us. The voice of the narrator, Anthony Mendez, even has the Outstanding Narrator Emmy nomination to prove it — he's undeniable.

    10. The ~look~ of the show alone will make you feel like you're wading into a warm bath.

    Lime greens! Pinks! Aquas! Purples! Jane the Virgin is a reminder, in the vein of Parks and Recreation: That television can make your soul feel good. That's present here everywhere from the characters to the wallpaper. Even when this show hits its dramatic peaks it still feels like a welcome vacation from whatever stressors are happening in the world offscreen.

    11. There's a lot to look at, uh, in general.
