    "Hey, what's in your lunchbox?"

    1. "No hat, no play" did not go down well with your mother.

    2. You were able to take two weeks off for a wedding.

    3. And the holidays meant you could fly out somewhere and come back feeling ~cultured~

    5. You had to explain what your lunch was every day.

    6. Watching the cultural masterpiece Bend it Like Beckham would inevitably lead to silly questions.

    7. People assumed you were related to every other Indian in school.

    8. Taking a day off for Diwali felt amazing.

    9. You wore this fancy stuff and felt like an ~ethnic queen~

    10. Getting your parents to sign off on the sex ed class was traumatising.

    11. When your friends came over to your house after school they realised all you owned was Bollywood movies...

    12. But if your friends casually invited you over to theirs, you always just said no.

    13. Seriously, your parents saw threats of kidnapping literally everywhere.

    14. Being a library monitor seemed like legitimate work experience.

    15. The Dollarmites program was basically the most important thing ever.

    16. But you never understood when kids would buy from the canteen every day.

    17. Cross country was basically a day off.

    18. As were sports carnivals, fetes, excursions...

    19. Your parents had absolutely no chill when it came to interview day.

    20. And getting your report card was always terrifying.

    21. But the multicultural days made it all worth it.
