How To Make A Best Friend At College

Shout out to my best friend on her 20th birthday!

1. Pick someone on the facebook group that has something in common with you, add them and immediately talk about the one thing you have in common.

Admit your weaknesses early on, especially if they have to do with something the other person seems good at. This way you can learn from them rather than feeling awkward about not being able to contribute when they talk about a subject you know nothing about.

3.

Try to be optimistic about their quirks but don't promise you will watch all of the Harry Potter movies with them... Otherwise they might think you actually will.

Teach each other new words. This is especially useful when you don't share the same native language

Count down till the moment you meet them in real life and wish them a happy birthday even before you've met.

Experience new things together! Even if this means waking them up super early to go to church with you when they are agnostic and then dragging them to your favorite grocery store - these are great memories in the making.

Take a difficult class together; this way you can complain together and help each other out when you do understand something. Also pictured here, stand up for each other on social media debates especially if they are about politics or language.

Teach each other new games, in fact teach them all of your secrets in a game you are good at that way you always have a teammate when you are playing with other groups of people and you can almost guarantee that one of you will win if there is ever a tournament. Celebrate their success as much as you would celebrate your own.

Do things that they want to do even if they seem stupid. You don't need to give in to their (sometimes) childish desires every time they ask but every now and then just do something stupid together and laugh about it.

Bond over free food. Anytime. Anywhere.

Meet famous people together! Some of our favorite famous people to meet include Malala, Queen Elisabeth II, and Joe Biden.

Share links to buzzfeed articles with each other. The longer you two are friends and the more you know about each other, the more links you will be sharing but you can never have too many.

Help each other with bad habits.

Go beautiful places together. Beaches, sunsets, reading, and smoothies and laughter are all very good for the soul.

Go to concerts together. But before you do, listen to the performing artist for at least two weeks in advance so that you can learn the music and sing along.

Take selfies. Even when you are exhausted, sweaty, greasy, and in a hurry to catch your next plane.

Soon you will begin to realize that you enjoy some of your friend's hobbies, even when you are not doing them together. Cheer for their sports teams!

Dump water on each other out of beer bottles???

Travel the world and see new places together. Even if this means staying in random little towns in Germany or getting completely lost as you try to drive back from France.

Find a show that you can watch together when you need a break from studying or when it is too cold outside to go to the gym. As you watch the show together share every single article or buzzfeed post about it with each other and analyze every character and episode.

Introduce them to your family and watch them become friends with your sisters and cousins. Prep them for family gatherings by teaching them everyones names and occupations and then quiz them on the train ride there.

But most importantly.... Find a friend who is cares to learn all about you and your family and friends, find someone who loves the same things you do and is easy to share food with but also gets angered by injustice and will fight for human rights, find someone who is childish and makes you lighten up and laugh at yourself but also someone who is mature and understands more than you ever could. Sound impossible?? I thought so too till I met this one!
