Want To Feel Old? These 20 Songs Are 20 Years Old This Year!

I really wanted to do the Top 100 Billboard Hot 100 Singles because Jessica Andrews' "Who I Am" is on there, but I limited myself to 20. Here are the top 20 singles of 2001 that are turning 20 this year!

    20. "Peaches & Cream" by 112

These are the kind of lyrics we were dealing with when we were 16, "Peaches and cream I need it cause you know that I'm a fiend. Gettin' freaky in my Bentley limousine. It's even better when it's with ice cream."

    19. "Follow Me" by Uncle Kracker

2001 definitely feels like a year we would make Uncle Kracker famous. "Follow me everything is all right. I'll be the one to tuck you in at night. And if you want to leave I can guarantee you won't find nobody else like me."

    18. "Ride Wit Me" by Nelly

Be real. The part you screamed was, HEY! MUST BE THE MONEY! "If you want to go and take a ride with me we 3-wheeling in the fo' with the gold D's. Oh, why do I live this way? (Hey, must be the money!)"

    17. "Angel" by Shaggy

This was one of TWO Shaggy hits that year. Shaggy was having one great year. "Girl, you're my angel. You're my darling angel. Closer than my peeps you are to me, baby. Shorty, you're my angel. You're my darling angel. Girl, you're my friend when I'm in need, lady."

    16. "Where the Party At?" by Jagged Edge

Apparently, this was Nelly's year, too, because this one's featuring Nelly! "Ay, where the party at? Girls is on the way, where the bacardi at? Models and models, talkin' all a that. Know I can't forget about my thugs where the party at?"

    15. "U Remind Me" by Usher

This was just at the edge of Usher before he turned into Ursher feat. Luda. Also? This song was pretty savage. "You remind me of a girl, that I once knew. See her face whenever I, I look at you. You won't believe all of the things she put me through. This is why I just can't get with you."

    14. "It's Been A While" by Staind

Yes, it has been a while since I've heard this song. "And it's been awhile since I could hold my head up high. And it's been awhile since I said I'm sorry."

    13. "Stutter" by Joe

This is definitely still a whole bop. "I can tell you're lying 'cause when you're replying you stutter, stutter, s-s-stutter, stutter. I can tell you're lying 'cause when you're replying you stutter, stutter, s-s-stutter, stutter."

    12. Shaggy - It Wasn't Me

See? It was totally Shaggy's year. "But she caught me on the counter (It wasn't me). Saw me bangin' on the sofa (It wasn't me). I even had her in the shower (It wasn't me). She even caught me on camera (It wasn't me). She saw the marks on my shoulder (It wasn't me). Heard the words that I told her (It wasn't me). Heard the scream get louder (It wasn't me). She stayed until it was over."

    11. Blu Cantrell - Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)

Before there was Carrie Underwood, there was Blu Cantrell. Ladies, having a bad day? Blast this, kick back, and let that powerful energy flow. "Hey ladies, when your man wanna get buck-wild just go back and hit 'em up style. Put your hands on his cash and spend it to the last dime for all the hard times."

    10. Destiny's Child - Independent Women, Pt. 1

All right, who thought there'd be a Pt. 2 around the corner? Hands? "All the women, who are independent. Throw your hands up at me. All the honeys, who making money. Throw your hands up at me. All the mommas, who profit dollars. Throw your hands up at me. All the ladies, who truly feel me. Throw your hands up at me."

    9. Lenny Kravitz - Again

Sigh, Lenny. "All of my life. Where have you been. I wonder if I'll ever see you again. And if that day comes I know we could win. I wonder if I'll ever see you again."

    8. Dido - Thank You

It's hard not to think of Dido and then think about that duet with Eminem, but giving her her space on this song, too. "And I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life. Oh, just to be with you is having the best day of my life."

    7. Eve - Let Me Blow Your Mind

I think motorcycles in music videos were big that year, but this was iconic. "If I had to give you more it's only been a year. Now I got my foot through the door and I ain't goin' nowhere. It took a while to get me here and I'm gonna take my time. Don't fight that good shit in your ear now let me blow ya mind."

    6. Matchbox Twenty - If You're Gone

I basically felt like I was a walking Matchbox Twenty song in 2001. I was that emo teenager. "If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home. There's an awful lot of breathing room. But I can hardly move. If you're gone, baby you need to come home, come home. There's a little bit of something me in everything in you."

    5. Jennifer Lopez - I'm Real

Hey, kids! Ja Rule's in this one! Back when he wasn't the Fyre Fest guy. "Cause I'm real. The way you walk, the way you move, the way you talk. 'Cause I'm real. The way you stare, the way you look, your style your hair. 'Cause I'm real. The way you smile, the way you smell, it drives me wild. 'Cause I'm real and I can't go on without you."

    4. Train - Drops of Jupiter

This. Song. Was. Everywhere. "But tell me, did you sail across the sun? Did you make it to the Milky Way. To see the lights all faded and that heaven is overrated? And tell me, did you fall from a shooting star? One without a permanent scar. And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?"

    3. Janet Jackson - All For You

    youtube.com

I'm a HUGE Janet fan. She was the first concert I ever went to and this era of Janet was everything. I still scream to this song when she sings it at her current shows. "It's all for you. If you really want it. It's all for you. If you say you need it. It's all for you. If you gotta have it. It's all for you if you make a move It's all for you."

    2. Alicia Keys - Fallin'

    View this video on YouTube

    youtube.com

Of course this song is number two. IT'S ALICIA KEYS. Her huge, giant debut hit. "I keep on fallin' in and out of love with you. I never loved someone the way that I love you."

    1. Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment

This song? Still big. Still everywhere. Full discretion: I'm a huge Lifehouse fan. Front row going, still go to their shows, buying albums kind of a fan so I am thrilled to see them in the number one spot! I saw them for the first time on October 22, 2001 and won't stop any time soon. "I'm falling even more in love with you. Letting go of all I've held on to. I'm standing here until you make me move. I'm hanging by a moment here with you."
