8 Times There Were Homoerotic Undertones In Othello That Everyone Ignored

    No, we are not kidding.

    1. When Iago finished explaining his grand plan to take down Othello with the end goal of making Othello "thank me [Iago], love me, and reward me."

    2. When Iago was constantly trying to steal Desdemona's handkerchief, which was given to Desdemona as a symbol of Othello's love.

    Someone is a bit obsessed...

    3. That time Iago said he had just slept with Cassio, and the audience did not even flinch.

Iago: "I lay with Cassio lately."

Audience: "Oh yeah guys sleeping with other guys is socially acceptable in the seventeenth century. They were very progressive people."

    4. When Iago then went on to literally say Cassio kissed him.

Iago: "And then [Cassio] kiss me hard, and he plucked up kisses by the roots that grew upon my lip."

    Audience: "Yes. Very normal."

    5. And if that is not enough, Cassio put his leg over Iago while in bed with him, and then Cassio kissed him again.

    6. And then Cassio cursed fate for putting Iago with Othello, not Cassio.

Cassio: "Cursed fate that gave thee to the Moor!"

    7. When Othello heard about this and immediately demanded Iago to kill Cassio.

It's almost as if Othello was jealous of Cassio...

    8. When Iago then immedietly killed Cassio and professed his dedication to Othello.

Iago: "I am your own forever."

Audience: "Oh yes it was very common back then for two guys to profess lifelong dedication to each other. This does not sound like wedding vows at all."
