5 Deep-Sea Ceatures That Are Actually Kind Of Adorable

Cuteness is in the eye of the beholder.

The dark, murky depths of the sea.

It constantly haunts our nightmares and torments our imaginations. What's down there? What does it look like? What the heck is that thing swimming at me from out of the darkness?!

However, despite what we may think, not everything lurking in the deepest crevasses of the ocean is menacing and horrifying. In fact, some of the creatures that dwell below are actually kind of... cute!

1. The Frilled Shark

Okay, so right off the bat, he doesn't exactly look like he's the cuddly type.

2. The Vampire Squid

This guy's no Bela Lugosi, but you have to admit his squiddy exterior has a certain alluring charm.

3. The Male Anglerfish

By now, all of us are familiar with what an anglerfish looks like. It's big, has gnarled, pointy teeth, and a dangling light that helps attract prey, like this:

But did you know that this is only what the lady anglerfish look like?

(Yeah. For real. What a babe.)

The male anglerfish actually look quite different from their female counterparts, and they're much, much smaller.

In case you were wondering, the female anglerfish is on the left, and the little bulge-like bump clinging helplessly to her side on the right is the male.

(Ain't that always how it is, ladies?)

Anyway...

What's cute about these guys is that when they see a girlie they like, they latch onto their woman and fuse (yes, fuse) with her body, and become a sex organ the female uses to reproduce whenever she wants.

There's nothing sweeter than a man who's dedicated to his woman, right?

4. The Japanese Spider Crab

Don't be intimidated by the tough outer shell! This giant crab can actually be really nice!

And if that wasn't enough, this guy's legs can reach a span of 12 feet long, making him absolutely perfect for hugs and snuggles!

5. The Oarfish

No, you're not seeing a sea monster! The oarfish actually exists and it is absolutely enchanting.

First of all, they're HUGE.

Now what's not cute about that?!

Even though these five ocean-dwellers may not be everyone's cup of sea water, sea-ing as we've only explored less than 5% of the ocean, chances are there are much scarier, weirder-looking creatures down there, so let's appreciate these guys as much as we can!

After all, we never know what's lurking right below the deep, dark waters.
