‘It’s So Hard To Care About Anything Anymore’: Confessions Of Unemployed Workers

Just in case folks need a reminder, being unemployed really sucks. On top of the stress of not knowing how you’re going to pay rent or afford to eat, you feel isolated from your friends and family. Most people get that being out of work is no picnic, but Senators Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Dan Coats (R-Ind.) need a refresher. Here are some anonymous confessions from jobless workers from the secret-sharing app Whisper to remind them what it's like to not have a job.

    Facebook: SenatorKirk

Senators Kirk, Portman and Coats can do the right thing by voting to renew unemployment benefits for the 2 million Americans struggling to find work. But they seem preoccupied. Instead of considering people without jobs in Illinois, Kirk has been busy creating Tumblrs and posting Facebook pictures dedicated to Winter Olympic athletes from Illinois—while 99,000 unemployed workers in his state are left out in the cold (and not getting medals for it). Taking a break from his “busy” schedule, Kirk found a moment for a photo opp with actor Seth Rogen when he stopped by Capitol Hill to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s, however Kirk didn’t find the time to actually listen to Rogen’s testimony (perhaps he had to update his Instagram).

Call your senators today and ask them to renew unemployment insurance: 845-809-4509.
