Does UKIP Know That Foreigners Exist?

New evidence suggests party don't hate immigrants... they just don't believe in them.

Nigel Farage's party have centred their policies on reducing our contact with the outside world. They want to leave the European Union, reduce foreign aid, and prevent immigrants from accessing our benefits and healthcare.

However, despite all of this, they claim they aren't racist. That may be correct. I have reason to believe that UKIP believe we shouldn't help foreigners, not because they hate them, but because they think they aren't real.

1. Real change for real people

As their posters make clear, UKIP are making policies for "real people". As these policies include reducing immigration, and making it harder for foreigners to enjoy the state's generosity, we can only assume that Farage doesn't count foreign nationals as "real people". It only follows that he believes they are fictional.

2. Believe in Britain

The party's other slogan, and the name of their manifesto, is that we should "believe in Britain". In the leaders' debates and other public appearances, Farage has echoed that he "believes in the British people". Why only the British? It is right for him to believe in us, because we exist, but by absence we are forced to assume that he doesn't believe in citizens of other countries.

3. Belgium who?

Farage met with controversy when he attacked the EU President's home nation of Belgium, calling it "pretty much a non-country" and "an artificial" construction. Having visited Belgium twice, I can attest that it does exist, but UKIP's leader seems to disagree. Does he feel the same about all foreign countries? This would explain why he wants to leave the EU, seeing it as only full of David Cameron's imaginary friends.

4. Bongo Bongo Land

Godfrey Bloom, as a senior UKIP MEP, famously criticised foreign aid as all heading to "bongo bongo land", a non-existent country. This seems to suggest that the UKIP leadership believe that foreign aid only goes to made-up people and places, and that foreign people are all therefore fictional. That would certainly explain their opposition to such a waste of money.

5. Romanian vampires?

Farage has said he would be "concerned" to find a group of Romanian men living next-door to him, but refused to explain why he is frightened of this specific national group compared to any other. He must therefore have bought into one of two stereotypes about Romanians: first, that they are all thieves and criminals, or second, that they are all vampires.

Assuming that Farage would not be so racist as to label the entire country thugs, we have to conclude that he believes immigrants from around Transylvania are all blood-sucking mythical beings. No wonder he was concerned.
