Caligula, the Roman leader who proclaimed himself a ‘living god’, had amongst many others a man for a lover. The lover was none other than his blood sister’s husband Marcus Lepidus. He was also publicly marked by Caligula as the heir to the throne. Not just our present day presidents, even Roman emperors weren’t free from scandals.

Vlad III the Impaler (Wallachia)- 1431–1476/77

Vlad III, the Prince of Walachia, posthumously titled ‘Vlad the Impaler’ because of how he punished people was known to kill over 1,00,000 people. His violent character was immortalized as Count Dracula by Bran Stoker. Difficult to imagine that he could be in love with a young beautiful German Saxon girl named Katharina who supposedly later became one of the reasons for his decline.

Aurangzeb- sixth Mughal Emperor of India from 1658 to 1707

Aurangzeb was responsible for destroying many a sacred temples in India, all in the name of spreading the religion. He was also very frugal with his indulgences, never touching alcohol or opium. In fact, entertainment like music, dance and poetry was a strict no in his empire. That he was in love with his uncle’s concubine is sure to come as a huge surprise. In fact, so deep in love was he with her, that after her death during childbirth, he went into a shock for quite some time.

Adolf Hitler- the Fuhrer of Germany from 1933 till 1945

Adolf Hitler, the man who caused the World War II and was revered and feared equally by his people. Hitler was responsible for annihilating an entire generation of Jews. While on the outside he projected himself to be a celibate with no family ties, his close associates were aware of his relationship with Eva Braun. Eva Braun was only 17 when she met Hitler and was his companion for 14 years before they died together.
