To be fair, it was a tough basket. I mean, Rocky Mountain Oysters? Come on. But that doesn't excuse not properly cleaning the protein before serving it to the judges. For those reasons, the judges had to chop you.

On this very-special Christmas episode, you got stuck with a basket that included reindeer pâté. And while you cooked that well, Alex wishes you had just used a little more creativity in the rest of the dish. For those reasons, the judges had to chop you.

Things were looking good with this basket at first — until you got to the rattlesnake. It's not your fault you didn't know what to do with such an uncommon protein. Maneet tells you that you've unfortunately undercooked it. For those reasons, the judges had to chop you.

You cooked your protein perfectly. You got some great flavors out of that weird potato thing they put in the basket. Alas, your sauce was overpoweringly acidic. For those reasons, the judges had to chop you.

The judges absolutely LOVED your octopus bouillabaisse! The broth was seasoned perfectly, and the flavors just came together beautifully. Scott says it's one of the best dishes he's ever had in the kitchen! Congratulations.

The issue with your dish is that you just put too many components in it. Clams \*and\* pork sausage, when neither were even in the mystery basket? It's just too many overwhelming flavors. Geoffrey couldn't even go back for a second bite. For those reasons, the judges had to chop you.

Everything seemed so simple when you opened the basket. I mean, leg of lamb? You've worked with that a thousand times. Alas, as you were working on a romesco to go over the protein, you lost track of the lamb and overcooked it. Chris said the burnt flavor just took over the rest of the dish. Tortellini salad sounds pretty delicious, right? Well, except for the fact that the tortellini came exactly like that in the mystery basket. The judges really wish you had repurposed the ingredients a bit more creatively. For those reasons, the judges had to chop you.

Your marlin is totally delicious, and the kale chips you put on the side complement the fish well. Alas, in the rush of the final seconds, you knocked over the blender that contained all your sauce — which included a basket ingredient. Unfortunately, the other competitors didn't mess up enough to allow the judges to overlook your missed ingredient. For those reasons, the judges had to chop you.
