Everything Is Falling Apart In The New "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" Trailer

Things really, really don't look good for Marvel Studios' team of superheroes.

The second trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron debuted on Monday, and if the first trailer didn't already make it clear, things are much darker and more fractured for Marvel Studios' band of superheroes this time out.

The second trailer is, if anything, a sort of companion piece to the first trailer.

It doesn't reveal any major plot developments we didn't know before...

...namely that Ultron (James Spader) is a big, bad, super-intelligent robot who hates humanity, and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is responsible for bringing him into the world. So, good going, Tony.

And it also uses a similarly eerie version of "I've Got No Strings" from Disney's Pinocchio to introduce Ultron.

But in the second trailer, we do get an even grimmer picture of the punishment Ultron appears to dish out to the Avengers.

Iron Man gets slammed.

Captain America (Chris Evans) seems overmatched.

And Thor (Chris Hemsworth) appears unnervingly overwhelmed by the bolts of electricity he normally has no problem commanding.

It also looks like we'll get a glimpse into the past of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).

And the trailer especially makes clear that things are not good for Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo).

It looks like a transport ship, but for what? And to where?

Or who the heck Andy Serkis is playing in the film, since he keeps popping up in these trailers.

While Serkis is staying mum on the role, there is some speculation that he is playing Marvel villain Ulysses Klaw, who most consistently antagonizes Marvel hero Black Panther. Klaw is big into mining vibranium, the substance used to create Captain America's shield. The material is native only to the fictional African nation of Wakanda, home to Black Panther.

As it happens, Marvel Studios recently announced that Chadwick Boseman would play that role not just in a Black Panther movie (due to hit theaters in Nov. 2017), but in next summer's big Marvel Studios movie, Captain America: Civil War.

Which brings us to…

Is it a citizen of Black Panther's nation of Wakanda, possibly one of the "Adored Ones"? Is it Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), otherwise barely featured in this new trailer? Or is it Vision (Paul Bettany), a character who has remained virtually MIA from official Avengers first looks, but whose appearance — dark skin, with a stripe running down the center of his face — has leaked out anyway?
