#Wonkcomms Summer Reading/Viewing

Summer is here and so what better time to catch up with all that reading/viewing you haven't got round to this year. Here's my list for summer 2014. Probs more comms than wonk. Let me know what you are reading/watching!

1. Capital by 'rockstar' Thomas Piketty

You're nobody in the #Wonkcomms world if you've not read Capital. Piketty has reached true c'leb status this year, well in the wonky world, not sure he'd be offered a spread in Hello just yet. Or you could just read the cheat's guide as word has it no-one has actually read beyond p 26.

2. Borgen Box Set

How life working in coalition politics should really be: full of designer Scandinavian furniture, good looking spin doctors and journalists with a top female leader.

Sadly the final series aired this earlier year. Message for Kaspar: we forgive you for the Eurovision gig, comeback! #Wonkcomms needs you!

3. Benefits Street

Love it or hate it, you have to admit that this social fly-on-the wall documentary/reality tv series really made us sit up and notice. Which other tv programme could bring together heavy-hitting Fraser Nelson with Katie Hopkins and White Dee to discuss welfare issues? And be debated in the House? #prgold

4. This Boy - Alan Johnson

Winner of two major prizes this year, This Boy shows how writing about poverty and social issues does not have to be dreary and dull. Chris Mullin in The Guardian: "Far from being a misery memoir, it is beautifully observed, humorous, moving, uplifting; told with a dry, self-deprecating wit and not a trace of self-pity."

5. Hard Choices - Hillary Clinton

How to survive a major brand/pr crisis in politics? Hillary Clinton describes how in her memoirs published this year. Important lessons in doggedness and tenacity - important #wonkcomms attributes.

6. W1A
