Apps that'll make working out at home easy for people of all ages (including kids) and fitness levels. Plus, many are offering discounts right now, making it easier than ever to sweat at home.
Yes, that's right. You don't need to work out for hours and hours to get in a good workout. All of the workouts on the Seven app are based on scientific studies to get the most out of your workout in the shortest amount of time. First, you set your goals and fitness levels, and then every day it will give you a new seven-minute workout to complete over a seven-month period. As you go, you earn achievements and really create a habit of working out.
You can download the app (which is free to use) here, and if you want to more, you can subscribe to 7 Club for a more personalized workout plan and more workouts for $9.99/month or $79.99/year.
Although probably best known for its live cycling class, Peloton offers thousands of live and on-demand classes for a variety of different types of workouts. You can choose from toning, strength, running, yoga, and meditation. And with many people social distancing right now, Peloton increased its free trial to 90 days (from 30). The live classes are taught by instructions and make you feel like you're in a workout class no matter where you actually are. You can filter the thousands of workouts by class type, amount of time you have, or even your favorite kind of music and then track your workouts and progress as you go.
If you already own a bike or treadmill, the app is included in your monthly subscription. But if not, you can sign up here. After your 90-day free trial, it will automatically renew at $12.99/month.
A friend in college introduced me to Tone It Up before they even had the app, and I would do the YouTube videos in my room in my first apartment in New York City. But the app takes those workouts to the next level and provides a variety of different types of 10- to 40-minute workout videos. They're easy to do and provide many modifications. You do need some basic equipment for some (e.g., weights, a resistance band, etc.). You can filter the workouts based on the muscle group you're trying to target or the amount of time you have. The app also has options to start a workout program that will tell you exactly what to do each day, and a section with recipes and meal prep tips for all dietary needs.
And right now the app is free until April 22; just download the app here. After the free trial, it's either $14.99/month or $99.99/year.
What makes Aaptiv different is that it's a completely audio app. Instead of having to focus on a video to see exactly what the instructor is doing, you just put headphones in and have them guide you with their voice (and a killer playlist). First you enter your fitness goals, which could be anything from running a race to simply reducing stress. Then you choose a workout based on how much time you have, the type of music you want, or even one of the 20 trainers. You can also pick a workout based on the equipment you might already have in your home (treadmill, elliptical, etc.) or one with no equipment at all (outdoor running, yoga, etc.). And if you want to go even further, there are many multi-week plans tailored to your specific goals so you can stay on top of your training. With more than 2,500 workouts on the site, there's a lot to choose from. Plus, it adds 40 new classes every week.
You can get a seven-day free trial at Aaptiv, and then it's $14.99/month or $99.99/year.
Asana Rebel describes itself as a yoga-inspired program, which really just means the classes have elements of yoga and other types of workouts to really get your blood pumping. You can focus on strength, flexibility, balance and focus, and more.
This app goes beyond the workouts and takes a more well-rounded approach to health. It also has nutrition information, calming sounds to help you fall asleep, guided meditations, music to help you focus, and more.
The app is free to sign up, but for access to all the workouts, it's $39.99/three months or $58.99/12 months.
Fitbit is known for its fitness trackers, so it makes sense that its app would be top-notch as well. The app offers hundreds of both video and audio workouts and really gives you the opportunity to customize the way you exercise. For example, if you already own a Fitbit, it will take your daily activity log to recommend workouts and activities. But if you don't have a fitness tracker, you can give feedback after you're done if it was too easy or too hard, and it will change the difficulty for you next time.
Sign up here for $7.99/month or $39.99/year.
If you've always wanted a personal trainer but never had the budget, or you can't see your personal trainer nowadays, this app is the way to go. It's a digital personal trainer, but the best part is that there is no gym required. And while the app offers some free bodyweight workouts from 5 to 30 minutes, to get access to all workouts and personalized coaching, you need the premium subscription. This includes a coach who will figure out what works for you and update a plan to keep you on track to meet your goals. And if you don't have a lot of time, the coach can make a shorter workout with the same amount of intensity. There's also a training journey option, where you select a training type and program, and you'll get 6 to 12 weeks of guided workouts to help you get there.
You can sign up for the premium subscription here, which is $2.69/week for three months, $2.31/week for six months, or $1.44/week for 12 months. (There is a 14-day money-back guarantee if you're not happy with it.)
Nike is a pretty well-known fitness brand, and the app stands up. I used the app back in high school and college and found the workouts to be great because you can customize them and find ones that work for your fitness level and situation. It offers over 200 completely free workouts that walk you through the moves step-by-step and tell you exactly what workout equipment you need. The workout times range from 15 to 60 minutes, and new workouts are added every month. It does offer a premium program that includes programs led by trainers, more than 150 exclusive workouts, and a nutrition-and-wellness guide for $15 a month.

Glo is all about bringing you a personalized workout of 16 different styles of yoga, Pilates, and meditation classes for beginners to advanced yogis from instructors around the world. When you sign up, you answer three questions so it can tailor your experience to your needs. First it asks you what you're focusing on, whether that's sleep, flexibility, back care, energy, etc. Then you get to select what type of instructor you're looking for. Maybe you like someone a little more nontraditional, or playful is more your speed. Finally, it asks how many yoga and Pilates classes you've taken (and it's okay if the answer is zero).
When you sign up, it will recommend a few of its 4,000 classes for you. You can also download the classes to practice offline, wherever that might be. After you take a few classes, you'll get new recommendations based on what you enjoy. You can also search for specific kinds of classes, such as a cardio-fusion workout, guided meditation, or stress-reducing breath work (which would be really helpful at the moment, tbh).
You can download the app here and sign up for a 15-day free trial. After that, a subscription is $22.99/month.
This app is all in the name. No need for a machine or even weights, which is perfect if you used to go to the gym and now find yourself in a home with nothing. There's so much you can do with just your body. You can focus on a specific body part or do a full-body burn. The app uses animation and videos to make sure your form is correct. It also includes warmup and stretching routines to make sure you stay safe and have a well-rounded workout.
You can download the app in the Apple App Store or Google Play. Once you've downloaded it, you can subscribe for $59.99/year to get access to all the features.
Instead of waking up to a jarring alarm clock and then spending a good 10 minutes scrolling through social media, you can transform your morning routine with this app. It brings you easy, audio-guided yoga and meditation right to your bedroom. You can pick from many different styles, such as morning stretching while still in bed or ones that get you energized to get out of bed and start the day. All of the practices include audio guides with accompanying playlists featuring music from legends such as Prince and Bob Marley or simply instruments. Just pick your practice the night before, download it, set the time you want to wake up, and fall asleep knowing the practice will be there for you in the morning. Plus, there are also specific styles to help kids wake up and go to sleep better (which might be really helpful, since there's no real schedule at the moment).
You can download the app here and get a seven-day free trial. After the trial, a subscription is $9.99/month, $34.99/six months, or $53.99/year.
This app offers 30-minute live workouts every day at 9 a.m. or on demand for 24 hours. These specific workouts are developed for beginners, but there are also hundreds on demand for any level, including full-body group workouts, intro to exercise, barre for all, high-intensity training, and more. You can either take group workout classes or do one-on-one training if that's more your style. Plus, Daily Burn recently added audio workouts to really give you a well-rounded experience.
Download now and get a 30-day free trial. After that, it's $19.95/month.
If you're a boutique fitness junkie and really can't stand the fact that you can't work out in a studio right now, this app is for you. It gives you access to a total of 12 class styles, including yoga, HIIT, barre, kickboxing, and Pilates. And the best part is that the classes are shot on location in the studio with either minimal or no equipment. There are 20 studios on the app now, but that's growing. The studios include Switch Playground, Mindfresh, ModelFIT, and the Bari Studio. Plus, there are over 125 new classes added each month. You can also select a workout based on how much time you have, what equipment you own, or what you're trying to focus on. In addition, the app has fitness programs that last from as little as seven days to three months.
Right now Jetsweat is offering one month free if you use the code WFH when you sign up. You can download the app here. After that, it's $19.99/month or $179.99/year.
