    ACL Weekend 2, Day 1 With...Avers

We sat down with Avers to ask them five, simple questions...

Following Washington, D.C.'s Landmark Music Festival, Richmond, Va.-based Avers headed down to Austin for Austin City Limits (ACL). During our interview, the psych-pop-rock-n-roll band is unassumingly cool and catches the gaze of those passing by. It may be the vibe, as well as their sound, that made Avers 2015's winners of SXSW (South-by-Southwest) by The Daily Beast, as well as being named one of Esquire Magazine's "Ten Bands You Need to Know." Avers consists of musical veterans James Mason of The Mason Brothers; Tyler Williams of The Head and The Heart; Alexandra Spalding of Hypercolor; Charlie Glenn of The Trillions; James Lloyd Hodges of Farm Vegas and Adrian Olsen of Hypercolor.

We sat down to ask them five questions.

    1.

    1. What are your favorite person, places or things about Austin?

    Glenn: Salt Lick BBQ.

Williams: Salt Lick. Torchy's Tacos. It's all about the food.

Glenn: Mohawk is pretty cool. Stubbs.

Williams: We could probably name about half a dozen.

    2.

    2. Who are the artists that you're looking to see and hear at ACL this weekend?

Glenn: I think we can all agree on Tame Impala.

Spalding: Yeah, we saw them in Richmond. I think all of us saw them in Richmond when they were their last year. We saw them when we were there, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Williams: It was also the night after the show at Richmond. That was the first time that I played with you guys, so there is kind of a deep connection to that music for us.

    3.

    3. What did you want to be when you were little?

    Williams: A rock star.

Glenn: I guess an astronaut, but I'd settle for a rock star.

James: I always wanted to be a umpire. Because I was way into baseball and I felt like I was starting to realize that, if I couldn't make the pros, I could at least be an umpire.

    4.

    4. If you couldn't be a performer, what would you be doing right now?

    Williams: Professional cat herder.

Spalding: Charlie wants to be a pilot. I think I'd just run a rock club. Not too far off the mark.

    5.

    5. Favorite curse word or substitution for a curse word?

Glenn: We've kind of been using "buttfucker" a lot. We've been using it in place of "motherfucker", like "This is a really good buttfucking sandwich."

Williams: I think, also, every time we get in the van, we try to come up with the most inappropriate dick jokes that we can.

Glenn: Yeah, the van is called "Dick Van Dyke"…it's so strange. We don't make it a mile before it gets horrendously dirty.

Spalding: Let's just go with good old "fuck"—that's my favorite.

Glenn: "Charlie, you good old fuck, how you doing?"
