The Red Viper For The Demon Head (5 Reasons Why GOT's Pedro Pascal Would Make The Perfect Ra's Al Ghul)

Last Sunday's Game of Thrones was not only another thrilling entry in the show's four season run, but also concluded with one of the most tragic deaths in it's bloody history. If reaction videos are to be believed, the loss of Oberyn Martell rates a close second to the much touted "Red Wedding" of last season. This is even more shocking due to the fact that Oberyn's entire arc lasted only seven episodes (and maybe an hour of screen time). It's my and many other's conclusion that the popularity lies not just in the popularity of the character, but in his portrayal by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal. Heartbroken like many others at losing such a charismatic actor in genre show me and my friend's brainstormed where we would like to see him again, when it hit me. Batman's most powerful foe and wittiest rival...Ra's al Ghul.

1. He Oozes the Power and Charisma.

Liam Neeson only recently brought forth the Demon head into mainstream culture with Batman Begins. Though his command of the role was great, he was relatively conservative in his portrayal. Ra's is a man without an era, he has seen things we can hardly imagine. He's ruled with an iron fist at time and a "gentle" push others. Pedro's naturally timeless features and suave deliver would go far in creating a realistic persona of this immortal presence. Batman would never believe Ra's was right, but played with finesse, we can see a Batman trying to decide if Ra's is totally wrong. Pedro could not only be persuasive villain, but an admirable foe.

2. He Has the Right Physical Presence

Ra's is not brutishly large like Bane or wormy as the Joker. He is a man with complete control of his ability and has an also preternatural understand of his own body. Not only is Pascal equally physically fit, he moves with authority and grace. While Neeson came off as a fatherly mentor (which was perfect for that story), a future rendition could do well showing Ra's as the man with the plan and as we saw with Oberyn, Pascal can pull that off in spades.

3. He's Can Play Dangerous/Crazy

Of all my talk of finesse and charm, we can't forget that Ra's al Ghul is a BAD MAN. This guy basically invented functional crazy and is in no mood to stop. Pascal's Oberyn was full of crazy, but like al Ghul, knew when to strike. Ra's al Ghul is calculated and cool as a cucumber. His biggest fault is usually his pride, so in need of being vindicated, it often is what cost him his sure footed victory...kinda like a certain hero we knew on GOT. (Why didn't you just keep stabbing him Oberyn? WHY?!?!)

4. Because Ricardo Montalban Is No Longer With Us

Maybe his accent was a bit too thick (though apparently just right to play an indian prince, Star Trek), but I've always imagined him as my perfect Ra's al Ghul. For everything I saw in Ricardo, I also see in Pedro. To state again that it's not that Neeson's version of character was wrong, it was perfectly muted for Nolan's vision. This time around we need a man who can speak Shakespeare, command armies and unquestionable believe in his own power. Pascal knows a thing or two about Shakespeare and he possess the late Ricardo's veracity, exotic looks, quiet rage and undeniable presence. Maybe I'll won't get Ricardo's take on the character, but I think this would be the closest opportunity.

5. Because You Have THREE Opportunities to Try It DC/Warners

DC has not one, but three different venues to try this out. Ra's name has been dropped multiple times on Arrow, Gotham will start in the fall but why can't we get a flyby from the Demon Head. Finally, Batman v. Superman is apparently a lead in to a Justice League universe, but any fan of the great graphic novel Trinity by the amazing Matt Wagner would know how awesome of story it is. Not only for it's usages of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman, but all of them have to work together to bring down Ra's al Ghul's world cleansing plan. Or lest we forget Mark Waid's: JLA Tower of Babel. The possibilities are endless.

In Conclusion....

Very rarely do I feel so passionate about a fan casting, because ultimately at the end of the day, that's someone else's job, someone else's risk...I just have to hope for the best. But as a fan of the DCU (who's been feeling kind of neglected lately), I just felt like putting this into the ether. Maybe make some director, producer or casting department look in Mr. Pascal's direction. I'm sure he has a fine career ahead and needs little trumpeting from me, but the highest honor I can give is saying that you sir are an actor worth of a great character. I mean who couldn't this guy play...heck maybe even a hero...hey...you know, he'd make a pretty cool Dr. Strange....*picks up the phone* "President of Hollywood please...."
