TV shows that deserve a huge fandom.

The Urban Dictionary: Fandom “A large group of unstable and emotional fans that devote half of their time in daily life, loving the thing they are so dedicated to.”

    Justified (FX, six seasons)

Thankfully this show wasn't canceled, it truly ran its course and the characters were able to tell their stories in six remarkable seasons. This was the little show that could. It never got much press, and the star Timothy Olyphant did a handful of TV appearances in support of the show, mostly on Conan. The lack of press isn't because the show was bad; in fact it was widely critically acclaimed, it was because people didn't know it was on. The show is basically about an old west cowboy living in modern times. Raylan Givens is a US marshal who's also a bit trigger happy. What's not to love!? It has gun fights, fights, drugs, hillbillies, cults, pretty ladies, handsome men, cursing (thanks to it not being on network TV) and one of the best on screen duos I've ever seen. The chemistry between the protagonist and antagonist is thoroughly entertaining. I highly recommend binge watching Justified one weekend this summer, you'll enjoy it I'm sure of it!

    Veep (HBO -five seasons)

I actually think people are catching up to this amazing show. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has won the Emmy for her role as fictional Vice President Selina Meyer three times in a row, not to mention a number of other prestigious awards for her work. This show is by far the funniest most politically incorrect show on the air right now. Don’t watch it if you’re sensitive to jokes about race, sexuality, religion, tall people, redheads, or anything in between. It focuses on the office and life of then VP and now President Selina Meyer and her so very miss guided staff. I recommend watching this clip for a taste of what’s to come when you binge watch this masterpiece.

    Silicon Valley (HBO- two seasons)

I can’t say enough about this show, everything from the writing to the acting to the amazingly accurate portrayal of Silicon Valley. First and foremost I have to mention the great actor that played the tech millionaire Peter Gregory. Christopher Evan Welch sadly isn’t around due to a shitty thing called death, but his character was maybe one of the best characters on TV. You’ll fall in love with him and all the actors. It follows the lives of six men who struggle to turn their great idea into the next big thing. You can bang out these episodes pretty quickly and I guarantee full on tummy hurting laughter.

Most would post a link to the dick jerk algorithm but not me (although I do highly recommend it) I prefer this clip instead.

    Arrow (CW, three seasons)

Now, I know that most would say Arrow has a pretty big fandom, and you are correct. I guess I just want the fandom to have more face time and more press. The star and superhero, Stephen Amell is thee most underrated actor on television. Can the Arrow fandom start a campaign to get him some recognition? This show gets everything right about Superhero’s. I’m continually amazed at the level of stellar storytelling and character development. There really isn't anything like it on TV. These characters are so flawed and they show their struggle well. It's not forced it's not questioned, it just is. The writers allow us to see it all, not brushing anything under the rug. We see each character grow in realistic non-sensational ways. It's just a well-crafted show that should get more recognition then it does.

Peaky Blinders (BBC Two/Netfilx- two seasons)

There are about a million and one crime dramas that your friends or family may recommend you watch. Don’t listen to them, listen to me and watch Peaky Blinders. To be 100% clear it’s a British historical crime drama that follows the lives of a family of gangsters living in the 1920’s Birmingham England. I’m not going to lie the are many selling points to this show, but the major one is the great and creepily handsome Cillian Murphy, playing the usually silent but deadly Tommy Shelby. The other selling point is the cinematography. I’ve seen many great shows with basic but good cinematography. The opening scene from the first season will show you the greatness of its crew. Peaky Blinders doesn’t settle for basic. In fact nothing about this show is basic, the styling, the acting, the fight scenes, everything is on point. Oh, and did I mention the theme song is by Nick Cave and the bad seeds? Yeah, it’s all kinds of awesome!

    Outlander (Starz, one season)

Sex! That got your attention didn’t it? I’m not saying that’s all this show has to offer, but it does offer a lot of it. It also has a lot of shirtless sexy men running around killing each other and they have Scottish and British accents. What’s not to love?! In all seriousness this show is amazing, it’s a show based on some time traveling romantic novels of the same name by Diana Gabaldon. We meet the main character a nurse, Claire Beauchamp Randall at the end of WWII. She’s traveling with her husband along the Scottish country side when she’s suddenly transported back to 1743. While there she falls for the drop dead gorgeous warrior Jamie Fraser. I could go on, but it really is best that you watch for yourself.
