10. How FREAKING Funny It Already Is

While the book has a serious and emotional core, it is still funny. The movie looks like its maintained all of the random, awkward, and ironic humour of the novel.

Simon has plenty of random musings throughout the novel. Some are hilarious to imagine and it's great the filmakers opened up the story to include them in a new and even funnier way.

There are so many people I could mention here, but all I'll say is: JENNIFER GARNER AS HIS MOM. SHE'S NOT EVEN A HUGE PART IN THE BOOK.

Nick Robinson. Yeah, that guy from Jurassic World. Based on the trailer he's turning in a star-making performance that's sure to win over both the film-firsters and the book-firsters. He's equal parts lovable, awkward, funny, and touching. He's basically Simon to a T.

6. It's Diverse as Hell

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is a book filled with diverse characters from all races, genders, religions, and sexualities. They populate the world in a way that never feels forced or done merely for the sake of checking off representation boxes. Each character feels real, honest, and valuable to the story and the film has made the right choice and kept that in the casting.

5. THE FEELS

While the trailer doesn't reveal much of the plot for those who haven't read the book, it does do a great job of equally balancing the book's humorous tone with its emotional aspects.

4. THE MUSIC!

Three words: WALK. THE. MOON. As much fun as "Shut Up and Dance" was, "Surrender" has an emotional weight and urgency to it that the trailer wouldn't be the same without. "This is the moment I surrender" indeed, Simon.

Music plays a huge part in the novel and while we didn't get to hear Elliott Smith or Rilo Kiley in the trailer, it's almost certain we will be getting most of the iconic tunes in the film itself.

3. It's Unabashedly Romantic

While I wouldn't say that Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is a teen rom-com, it is at heart a very romantic story about loving yourself and others. The trailer already sets the heart soaring and I'm sure we will feel much more of that when the movie hits theatres.

2. It Already Perfectly Captures "The Feeling"

Look, everyone feels isolated at some point, especially in High School. Queer kids though, we had it extra hard. The loneliness that is felt when your closeted is extremely isolating, especially because all we want is to be able to openly love someone else (or even ourselves) the way our heterosexual peers could. The small depth-of-field shift in this shot alone says so much about "The Feeling" and it is a great sign that the people involved in the movie understand it too.
