Get Up For Fargo!! College Gameday Weekend Part 2

Part 2 of a review of College Gameday in Fargo

Get Up For Fargo!! College Gameday Weekend Part 2

As I had previously stated in my last blog, I proceeded to arrive in Downtown Fargo by 5 in the morning. However, with free parking at my hotel, I didn't need to drive around as it was a short 4 block walk. When I arrived on Broadway in Downtown Fargo by 5:00 AM there was essentially 1000 NDSU collegians hanging around, countless were standing in line to have their Gameday posters closer to the front stage. Oddly enough, I did grab a place up close to the College Gameday set, however I moved when friends arrived later. In hindsight, I should have kept my place as 1000 people changed to 10000 people in no time. It was a unspeakable experience, however, instead of explaining full details. I will explain a few opinions of people and events that happened. Plus I put a little YouTube video of Gameday signs, sights and sounds of Downtown Fargo. Here's another blog about The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Was a huge group of kids camping out early

    The Good:

Chris Fowler: Being at College Gameday and having gone into Radio Broadcasting at Brown College myself, you can appreciate the class and professional manner that Chris Fowler executes for ESPN College Gameday. Granted, he may be biased to NDSU fans and the Dakotas as he appreciates the passion of the fans and hospitality he received in Fargo the last couple of years. In addition, Chris in between commercials would a give modest wave to the fans, or pose for pictures with fans. You obviously can tell he's a broadcaster that truly loves his job.

Gameday Signs: I will say this there were a myriad I could have posted, that I made an Imovie of all the signs, sights and sounds of College Gameday. Without further ado, here's the video.

A few clips and signs for you to enjoy!

NDSU Tailgating: Everywhere I gazed the two colors I'd seen was green and gold. No this wasn't Lambeau Field, I would never be at a Packers game. Nope, welcome to the Fargodome! My younger brother always told me to come to a NDSU Football game, however at the time I didn't have the money or I worked weekends. However, I could view why one tailgate group would buckle down to outdo each other, it's thanks to the passion for their hometown team. Simply put, the Fargodome parking lot is a village in itself. The food smelled delicious, although a person would be required to pay for parking unless they park down on campus.

It's a little city right next to the Fargodome!

Xtreme Pizza Kitchen: When I took a little nap after watching the NDSU game on TV (unable to score game tickets). I decided to score a takeout order for pizza. I order from a tiny business called the Xtreme Pizza Kitchen. I must say, probably the best pizza I ever had. I ordered 3 topping medium from their location. It had sliced Italian sausage, mushrooms, and onions. All the ingredients of the pizza tasted fresh and probably one of the chewiest and flavorful crust of pizza I ever had. Not to mention, the pizza sauce was light and not overpowering. Xtreme Pizza Kitchen offers other various items including calzones, salads and deserts. Furthermore, they also specialize in Gluten-free, Vegetarian and Vegan style pizza, which is rare for similar pizza shops in the Fargo area. If you're ever in Fargo, this would be the pizza place to stop at.

    Great Pizza for any occasion!

    The Bad:

Lee Corso: I generally love senior citizens (except octogenarians who can't drive). However, it's sad to see Lee Corso on College Gameday in his current state. He clearly needs to retire, he hardly makes rational opinions anymore on the broadcast and has to be in early stages of senility. Furthermore, him picking UCF every week like they're similar to Alabama makes my argument valid. Regrettably, it's tough to call it quits at any age, it's best in obvious cases to go out on top. Otherwise the general public would determine you're there just for a paycheck.
Erbert and Gerbert's Sandwich Shop: I have never eaten at this sandwich shop before, my barbecue beef sandwich was delicious except...... You should never have mayonnaise mixed with a barbecue beef sandwich. I can't stand mayonnaise, I'm a Miracle Whip consumer, I fathom that mayonnaise could have been on the shelf for day. Ewwww! However, their fresh bread and additional toppings made the sandwich taste adequate. Furthermore, my friend's wife Ms. Petie had their cheese soup and was disgusted as it may have come from a can. Ms. Petie was enraged and shaken from the bland taste of the soup.

UND Fans: Yes I appreciate you like to show your school pride. However you demand to partake at a NDSU tailgate party ? Especially in your UND gear when they're not even playing NDSU ? You should entertain the drive to Grand Forks and hang out with your fanbase there. It's one issue for your opponent fanbase that day to walk around in the NDSU tailgate section, it's another idea for the UND fanbase who you haven't played for in 10 years in football to be doing the same.

    The Ugly:

Elderly NDSU Tailgate Lady: Yes I'm sure I'm a stud muffin to you lady, but No means No. This 70 year woman groped my hindquarters and leaned up against me to attain her balance while I waited at the porta-pottie. If it wasn't for her husband, this lady probably would have passed out right there. The others that were waiting in line had a chuckle at my expense. With it being the season opener and College Gameday in Fargo, I'm shocked I didn't view more inebriated people similar to this individual.

Politician handing out Flyers: Yes I understand, you're running for a political office in Cass County out of Fargo. I wanted to hand the flyer back, and say I wasn't from Fargo or part of your constituency. Nevertheless he just kept passing them out as people walked by. He didn't even converse with myself on the issues. Be a real man, advertise in the paper or radio not at an outdoor event like College Gameday. In layman's terms, save a tree from your political fables. I am sure it was a Tyler guy or something for PSC Commission. I have no clue for sure, as I threw it away at the next garbage can. I am pretty sure he was a liberal douche.
Power Conference Fans: You FBS simpletons evoke my last and profound gripe. Nothing is extra annoying than hearing the constant whining as regards to your college not having College Gameday come to your school or city. Here's a thought, concentrate on not losing to inferior talent and be consistent week to week. There are only 7 deserving teams in the FBS right now. Furthermore, shake off the fact you're more deserving of the honor to have the show. It's not up to you, it is ESPN's descion to go where the ratings and where the passion is.

NDSU Fan mocking the FBS playoff system

You constantly complain when NDSU defeats FBS schools and all you fans continue to say it was "that school's" off year. FCS Schools like Eastern Washington, SDSU, Northern Iowa and Towson could beat your schools additionally if your college team has an off night. Furthermore what's impressive is that NDSU don't have scholarship numbers that the FBS has, or the crooked boosters and political clout. Yet NDSU won the last 5 games against schools in the FBS, most notably Kansas State and Iowa State the previous two years. Don't disturb the balance FBS, NDSU will be there in roughly 5 years and suddenly there won't be no more avoiding the NDSU Bison.

We will Be Loud!! We will be Proud!! We will be Herd!

Finally, I appreciate the feedback on the blogs, I relish to express my witty and goofy banter and humor on this forum. Overall it was an exceptional weekend, ran into a few friends. I was able to relax and unwind. However, it would have been lovely to see my cousins in the area, yet it's effortless to be lost during tailgating and being downtown with the mass of humanity. ESPN College Gameday stated they will be back to Fargo in 2015. Hopefully the Bison can maintain the winning tradition on their way to a 4th straight FCS Championship. Until Next Time, Take Care

    On The Road for 4!!
