This Unique Bicycle Is Made From Recycled Wood!

Nothing like going for a bicycle ride around the neighborhood. And this bike has drawn comments, because it's made of wood. Hobbyist Bill Perry has created this unique wooden bike.

"I got looks, a couple people took pictures of it. There's been comments like, 'what the heck is that?' 'Is that really wood?' and 'Did you make it?'"

Yes he made it, a wood working hobbyist Bill Perry saw a picture of another wooden cycle and well, that got him to thinking. And thinking can get you in to trouble! There was a lot of trial and error because a bike has more stress points than say a coffee table. So structural integrity was important!

"The bike that I built here is actually kind of heavy. I was looking for strength. Using plywood, to see if it would support me. I knew the wheels would, but what I had to put in it."

He put the spider web design on and dubbed this the black widow. Why? Because he wanted to. A bit of the kid in him! Also I noticed the stick gear shift. it reminded me of a bike from my youth, so why the stick shift?

"I remembered it too! I had a Sting Ray when I was growing up that didn't have one, but I always liked those bikes."

It's all recycled wood and yes, a bike number 2 is being built. More of a chopper motor cycle style. So be on the look out for that one next spring!

The bike might not be best for dirt trails or fancy tricks, but it's fun and it definitely turns heads.
