Why It Doesn't Matter That He's "Just Not That Into You": The College Years

We have all been there. That old, "does this person have feelings for me, or am I just crazy?" thought pops into your head and once it does, you can't shake it. Well, let me tell you: IT DOESN'T MATTER! What people our age don't seem to understand is that we are in the best years of our lives. 10 years from now we are going to be in our 30's, in bed by 9:00pm, and looking forward to that re-run of the Justin Bieber episode of Saturday Night Live.

I recently started chatting with a male specimen from my past. A boy that I have had a crush on since the day I met him when I was 13 years old. Of course this kid did not reciprocate said teenage feelings, but that did not stop me from crushing hardcore on him. It's seven years later and the boy is back in my life. Now, here I am feeling like a little middle school girl again analyzing every word he says. Does he like me? Has he changed his feelings since we were awkward teens with no knowledge or experience whatsoever?

But here's the thing I realized: IT. DOES. NOT. MATTER. There are billions, literally billions of fish in the sea out there, so why am I concentrating on this one fish? Maybe he is my soulmate, maybe he is not, but if he does not feel the same way why should I be the one to freak out about it? Rejection is rejection and it stings and it hurts, but we pick ourselves back up and get back out there. We are going to be facing rejections from jobs, and graduate schools, internships, etc. The time is now to start rising from the ashes of rejection and use it as a tool of empowerment!

So go out there, find that person you crushed on from 8th grade, tell him how you feel. Maybe he will feel the same way, maybe he will tell you you're a greasy eggplant parm. Embrace that eggplant parm-ness and move on to the next one. I believe in you. If they're not that into you (it doesn't matter), then you will find someone that is "that into you."
