A Day In The Life Of A Kent Place Student

Kent Place offers a one-of-a-kind environment for girls to learn and grow. It is a school whose environment and students can’t be compared to any other. Kent Place School and everything and everyone in it is truly unique. A day at Kent Place School is so much more than just education. *

The mornings at Kent Place usually start out with about 300 tired girls dragging themselves* into school. They have a long day ahead of them. The first sign that things may be a little "off" at Kent Place School is when: smooth jazz is playing as you walk into school.

Many of these confused girls have eaten breakfast. However, hunger quickly sets in.

the 99% of Kent Placers who have Starbucks Gold Cards* are often seen being comforted by a venti concoction in a green and white cup.

The girls who were not as fortunate immediately start the hunt for food and the 99% quickly join them. It is the goal of a Kent Place student to acquire food as quickly as humanly possible.

You know you're a true Kent Placer when upon seeing someone with even a crumb of food this is your reaction:

Besides the evident hunger that you see when you enter the Palace, the next thing you notice is the overwhelming amount of J. Crew apparel.

Walking into Kent Place is much like walking into J. Crew.

When a Kent Place student gets to school on a Monday or Friday, she unpacks and goes to Morning Meeting. Here, the Head of the Upper School, Mrs. Woodall addresses the "scholar leaders". But here is also where confusion strikes. We at Kent Place hear this a lot. It is obvious that a girl goes to Kent Place when she is called a "Scholar Leader".

After pushing through a few classes, Tuesdays are a beacon of hope for girls at Kent Place because they lead to advisory, but also to one of the most traumatizing Kent Place experiences a girl could have:

    When somebody forgets advisory snack

However, if other advisories are kind enough to donate food to the needy, your problem is solved and you are eternally grateful.

Another common Kent Place struggle is after advisory: When there are bagels in the lounge. Only the fastest and strongest will be fortunate enough to snag a bagel

The search for food often becomes frantic. Girls become desperate and desperate times call for desperate needs. Many students, specifically sophomores, are spotted becoming One Direction fans for a day because its one of their birthdays and their need for cake has gotten excruciating.

After seeing the deep yearning for food, it is easy to see why Kent Place girls are easily disturbed when food mysteriously disappears

There are many other events happening throughout the school days that can make the difference between a day being ruined and a good day. The leading cause of bad days at Kent Place happens in the blink of an eye. It sneaks up on you when you are least expecting it. It is the Blue Screen of Death.

More not-so-great ways for to start off school days were designed especially for sophomores. These classes specialize in putting you awkward situations and usually leave Kent Place girls wishing they came in to school late, despite the consequences. They are:

    Prepare

    and Project Adventure

Another sure-fire way to mess with a scholar leader (see, you still don't know the meaning of those words) is to throw Physical Education on her schedule. In order to be exempt you must play a school sport or get ten hours of sports practice a week plus competitions.

This is ten hours compared to having PE class is only for 2 hours a week, half of which is spent changing.

In addition, to make things even more weird, it is possible to get a P.E. exemption for pole dancing and riding a school bus.

Or, even worse than P.E, give a girl a minor for being out of dress code. But no matter how annoyed Kent Place girls will get over a dress code point, it doesn't compare to the anger they feel towards that one person who's always out of dress code but never gets a minor

Not a day usually goes by at Kent Place where tests, quizzes, homework, and projects are not graded and handed back to these overachieving girls. One of the other most frustrating things a Kent Placer can endure is to have to deal with the people who complain that a 90% is a bad grade.

The next problem is a Kent Place student's difficult life is presented when she has to go to the bathroom. I'm not quite sure how you do this, but the school "forgot" to build bathrooms so they haphazardly shoved them into the far corners of the building so now you have to walk a mile to the nearest restroom

When you finally get to the bathroom, what else would there be in there but signs telling you to ignore the socially accepted perceptions of beauty.

After being released for lunch and their hunger being suppressed, the girls push on through one last class before calling it a day. Classes end at 2:35, leaving plenty of time to meet with teachers if you are confused on a topic. . . unless of course a teacher avoids meeting with you

The school day officially ends at 3:10. This seemingly simple rule presents some students with a conflict because the teachers and coaches like to contradict each other when it comes to appropriate times to leave school.

Students are not allowed to leave school grounds until 3:10 but most sports buses leave at 3:00

Last, but not least, is a Kent Place favorite: Spirit Week! Although its not everyday that Kent Placers celebrate Spirit Week, those lucky enough to witness the grades in action will have some long lasting, and very spirited, memories. During this special time of the year, students can blame the mayhem on no one but themselves. Despite the fun, spirit week brings out the worst in people

Clearly, Kent Place is a school that compares to no other.
