I'm Dreaming Of A Connected Christmas

The "Internet of Things" is a buzzword for sure, but how can it help your holiday score?

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house

Not a device was a-whirring, save the wireless mouse.

    The children were nestled all safe and asleep;

The only sound heard was an ongoing beep

From the motion detector stashed inside the chimney

To track snowy visitors in the hopes that it was he -

Jolly old Saint Nicholas, who comes bringing toys

Instead of the Grinch, lacking chimney-slide poise.

From secure frosted windows one sees a smart scene:

A proud Mr. Christensen, surveying his dream

Of a connected home hub set up with simple instructions

On changing a roomscape with the touch of some buttons.

    Now sensors! Now trackers!

    Now wearables for sleeping!

On tree lights! On roof lights!

    On gift monitors for safe-keeping!

    From the automated speakers

To the Hue sconces on the wall,

A connected holiday keeps the stress away for all!

Mrs. C. opened the door as well-wishers arrived

Tripping a sensor to make carolers' music go live.

As they walked in the foyer, what decor did they see?

    Why, sparkly mood-lighting and a self-watering tree!

The guests smiled even bigger as eggnog appeared

Then took to the street once the dishes were cleared.

They all held their breath for the wireless lights,

One of the neighborhood's most spectacular sights!

"I'll light up this house, it'll rival the Joneses!

I'll do it up big - it's this one I ownses!"

And a bright night display was controlled from his phone -

"Dear Mr. Christensen, what a lovely home!"

Then inside they went, to the electric fireplace

And snuggled up together in a friendly embrace.

Up charged the Airplay to end the night gaily

By watching the movie that stars old George Bailey.

And with sleepy eyes, guests went home to their houses

To check on their sensors and own wireless mouses

Mr. Christensen smiled and punched in the code

That shut down the lights of his connected abode.

He and the Mrs. joined their children to bed

And then the house slept, security lights blinking red

One thought crossed his mind before his eyes did shut tight—

A smart holidays to all, and to all a good night!
