One of the women in the Obama campaign’s new video of Republicans supporting the president because of GOP positions on women’s rights appears not to be a Republican at all.
Maria Ciano who is featured in the web video has been a registered Democrat since October 2006 according to voter registration records.
“People like me and my family have realized that the Republican Party once was inline with our views, but are no longer,” the Colorado resident says in the video.
The video is one component of a larger Obama campaign push on women in light of the recent controversy surrounding Todd Akin.

Solus 9 months agoSo how about it Zeke? What was she registered as before 2006? Republican assault on women’s rights started a long time ago. Everything she said could be true, this article does nothing to disprove what she actually said. Instead we get this not so subtle Ad Hominem attack against her without actually disproving what she said.

Davine S. 9 months agoI find it really weird that you have to register yourself as being in support of a particular group in the US. Over here, we just vote for whoever we want based on who’s up for consideration in that election - you’re not restricted by your past beliefs and you can vote on every election / treaty regardless of your where your affiliation lies. (i.e. there are no primaries to decide on the nominees for each party - those decisions are made within the party.)

debf3 9 months agoSo one of the women doesn’t believe that the government should decide what she can and cannot do with her body? Does that include tellling her what she can eat and how much? Does that include making her wear seatbelts or smoke? There’s also the false accusations of Republicans don’t want women to have birth control. PLEASE, if you are a woman who is a democrat, WE WANT YOU TO USE CONTRACEPTIVES!! We just don’t want to be forced to pay for them or to pay for your abortions. Don’t rephrase the argument, Keep it to what it really is!

Hey, Phil, GW Bush tried to issue a state of emergency days before Katrina actually hit, but the gov of LA did not allow him to. GW chose to respect the gov., and this was actually GW follwing the letter of the law.
There are problems with our HC, but obamacare is not a solution, will only make things worse. -

JeremiahJohnson1 9 months agoEverything in the ad is true. Watch it. It is a powerful ad. I voted for bob dole and was actively involved in republican politics until about 1999 when I saw where the party was headed and decided to register independent. It was after the bush v. Gore incident that I registered democrat and I’ve been one ever since. The republican party that I grew up with is dead and gone. The moderates have been shown the door and the party will soon be relegated to permanent minority party status led by the religious zealots and the party folks. A this point it’s just pure demographics.
