Obama Spokesman Repudiates Top California Democrat's Nazi Comments

But campaign won't call on him to resign after comparing Paul Ryan to Nazi.

Charlotte, N.C. — Obama campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt repudiated comments by the California Democratic State Party Chairman John Burton Monday morning comparing Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

“They lie and they don’t care if people think they lie… Joseph Goebbels – it’s the big lie, you keep repeating it,” Burton said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle monday morning. According to the paper he added that Ryan told “a bold-faced lie and he doesn’t care that it was a lie. That was Goebbels, the big lie.”

Asked by reporters about Burton's comments following a press conference on Monday, LaBolt said, "that obviously doesn't reflect the views of the campaign."

"That doesn't have any place in the political discourse here in Charlotte," he added.

LaBolt declined to answer the question of whether Burton must resign his position in the state party or his role at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

UPDATE: The SF Chronicle overheard KCBS reporter Doug Sovern's interview with Burton, in which he compared Ryan to Goebbels.
