NBC Legal Department Calls On Romney Campaign To Pull Ad, Brokaw "Extremely Uncomfortable"

Brokaw: "I do not want my role as a journalist compromised for political gain by any campaign."

The NBC legal department is requesting that the Romney campaign remove all NBC News material from their campaign ads, in response to a new ad showing roughly 25 seconds of the NBC Nightly News from January 1997 depicting Tom Brokaw announce that Newt Gingrich had been found guilty of ethics violations.

Gingrich's campaign called it "another false ad" from the Romney campaign, noting that in 1999 Gingrich was cleared of wrongdoing in an IRS investigation.

"I am extremely uncomfortable with the extended use of my personal image in this political ad," Brokaw said in a statement released by the network. "I do not want my role as a journalist compromised for political gain by any campaign."

Update: Romney campaign responds: "We haven’t heard anything from NBC, nothing to comment on until then."
