Gingrich Draws Dismal Crowd In Tampa

Massive aircraft hangar booked, mostly empty well after start time.

TAMPA, Florida—Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich drew just 200 supporters to an event on his "fly-around" tour the day before the Florida primary.

Struggling in the polls, the meager crowd stands out against the crowds of thousands he has drawn across the state in recent weeks, though those totals have diminished as election day nears.

Below is a photo of the crowd at 1:50 p.m. — nearly an hour after the event's scheduled 1 p.m. start time.

Gingrich's campaign staff blocked off two-thirds of the hangar, and the remaining space is mostly dominated by reporters.

Here's a panorama of the room.
