The 20 Most Awkward Things About Being Gay

Where's your girlfriend? Where your girlfriend at? She getting you some Mike and Ike's?

1. When everyone knew you were gay except you.

Your dad signed you up for all of the sports, but you had some other fabulous interests -like baking or playing Pokémon with your cute neighbor.

2. When you had a crush on a "straight" boy at school and you started stalking him on Myspace/Facebook.

You finally were brave enough to message him... and things started to get pretty awkward for you.

3. That time your parents read your diary/blog/Facebook and started suspecting that you were, indeed, a homosexual.

And then you had to answer about a gazillion uncomfortable questions. #denial

4. You thought, "sure, I'll give it a try," and decided to date a girl for a while - so people wouldn't assume you were gay.

5. But nothing compares to your first time... with a boy.

Now, that was... something. And even though it was confusing and awkward, porn had taught you a few tricks and you still knew you liked it.

9. Developing body image issues.

It's very unfortunate, but it does happen within the gay community. Talk to someone who understands you and won't judge you for the way you look.

10. Dealing with 'gay' questions... and when I say gay, I mean stupid. *ugh*

"so, like, who's the girl in the relationship?"

"so, like, when did you decide to be gay?"

"so, like, aren't you, like, afraid of getting, like, AIDS?"

11. On that note: HOMOPHOBES.

Especially if they happen to be your own relatives. That's when the awkwardness level goes through the roof.

12. When you had no idea that you weren't allowed to donate blood anymore.

And you felt like a second-class citizen.

13. Becoming friends with straight guys.

16. When people assume you know *a thing/everything* about fashion, make-up, dieting, and exercise.

17. Taking a shower at the gym.

You obviously understand... However, you're mostly grossed out by how disgusting men can be. #superawkward

18. When your boyfriend's family is religious and right-wing conservative.

It's delightfully awkward to deny someone's existence...

19. The day your grandmother asked you for the 20th time if you have a girlfriend.

And even though it seems innocent, you know that she's asking you those questions because she's not that clueless and her gaydar is probably better than yours. She wasn't born yesterday after all!

20. Not being allowed to marry the person you love.

While *some people* are allowed to undermine "the sacred institution of marriage" as much as they please. That's the most awkward of them all!
