IMO, it's because when they are singing it they are pronouncing world as “whirrrrrl.” They leave off the “d” so it rhymes.

The rhyming of 'tears' and 'fears' drives me absolutely crazy.

Pairs that force the singer/speaker to use a particular dialect or accent annoy me a lot more: Does “explain”, “ran”, or “sin” rhyme with “again”?
Does “queen” or “thin” rhyme with “been”? The short answer is, “it depends on accent”. But in song, where most traces of accent disappear, the rhyme is just going to sound tortured to people who don't use that particular pronunciation. And no, I wouldn't think a YouTube video about these rhymes would be entertaining either. Even without the appallingly annoying host. (I feel really mean saying that, but it's true.)
