The Ups And Downs Of Being A CA

    And there are many...

So there are ups and downs in every job… everyone knows that. You’ve decided to become a CA at TCNJ- woo! It’s only proper for you to know what you’re getting into!

So there are always going to be those resident's who just refuse to follow quiet-hours, those who go out of their way to be rude, and those who just don't behave. That's just a part of the job and it comes with experience how to deal with those things (but don't worry!)

There will be the residents in the halls who stop by to chat but violate every rule in the student conduct code and the guide to residence living. Every hot night.

There will be the those nights when you’re on rove and you come across a party in a room and you knock and you hear the “Sh*t, it’s the CA- put it in the closet!” or “Cr*p, it’s the CA, *clink* *clink* *clink*, go hide in the shower!”

There are going to be those nights when you finish your 1am rove and had an incident and have to go write your incident room. You FINALLY get back to your room and:

Also, I’d hate to break it to you, but as difficult as confronting an incident may be…

At some point, you may even be like:

But I feel like I'm not really selling this position very well. You might be thinking: this article is the ups AND downs of being a CA and… well I've only been seeing downs. Hold on, I'm getting there.

Through all the craziness this job entails- there are also those moments of clarity and sanity. There WILL be quiet nights. Some nights you will even be able to knock out a bunch of your homework!

As weird as this may sound, a lot of authority figures around campus will know who you are! (and might be able to help you out if you need it!)

There are going to be those residents that are jerks but there will ALWAYS be MORE residents who actually care about you as well! Ones who will hang out with your in the hall office and come to your programs because they genuinely enjoy your company and want to support you! (Or because you just spent days perfecting the best program TCNJ has every seen) There will always be more good than bad!

And at the VERY least, you better know that you’ll get some crazy stories out of several duty nights. Some crazy things that you thought only happened in movies- Surprise! Nope, they originated in the very halls that you rove!

No matter what kind of duty night it is, no matter what kind of stress you're going through throughout this semester, always know that you'll have the returners on your staff, you'll have your Residence Director and your Assistant Director and basically all of TCNJ ResLife supporting you and cheering you on and giving you the foundation you need to have a great year yourself and be a great leader on your floor!

And always remember: If you ever don’t know what to do, you can pass it along! Thanks Pro Staff!
