Burka Avenger Is The Feminist Superhero We've All Been Waiting For
In July 2013, a new animated series made waves in Pakistan. Created by pop star Haroon, Burka Avenger stars a Burka-clad heroine who uses books and pens as weapons to promote women's rights and education in Pakistan.
The first episode introduces the heroine's backstory and mission.
And features a colorful group of side characters, excited for a concert at the local school.
Also, there's an adorable goat named Golu
This shady character, Vadero Pajero, is conspiring with main villain Baba Bandook to close down the local girls' school
But not if Burka Avenger and her friends have anything to say about it!
Not only does Burka Avenger stand up for what she believes in, but she does so as nonviolently as possible.
That said, she has some pretty awesome moves.
In the end, of course, Burka Avenger saves the day and the kids get to have their concert.
Inspired by the story of teen activist Malala Yousafzai, the show has become an international phenomenon.
This is the kind of show kids all over the world need and deserve.
