read the book, written by a southern woman at the time had relatives still alive from the war. my southern roots are deep. the book is 95% accurate. The movie is not, its alot of Hollywood. Even the parts that show the battle flag being flown is not accurate. That flag was only flown on the battlefield. The national flag was flown everywhere else. The part about Rhett telling scarlet about Gettysburg is not accurate either as civilians didnt know about the battle until it was over. The movie did not follow the book very well, most of the lines mammie had were actually said by a character named Will, a wounded Confederate who came to Tara, Scarlett had a child by both Charles and Frank and was a terrible mother to them and gave them up to her sister.
