Alicia Silverstone Bird-Feeds Her Baby
Oh my god: Alicia Silverstone is blogging about how she chews her son’s food up and then spits it into his mouth, just like a bird would? AS IF! Even worse? There’s video.
From Silverstone’s blog, The Kind Life (keep in mind that her son’s name is Bear Blu):
I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It’s his favorite…and mine. He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!

Alicia, Alicia, Alicia: why’d you have to go and do something crazy like this? Your role in “Clueless” made me idolize you from a tender young age, and when I grew up I admired your compassion for animals and vegan way of life. But now I feel like this:

Cinnamon Broom a year ago
I saw on TV once - this is a traditional Maori thing in New Zealand. I never could have imagined saying this a year ago, but as a nursing mother, 1) it’s no weirder than breast-feeding, in terms of intimacy and personal space and mommy issues, and 2) it’s a heck of a lot neater than trying to feed a toddler that age with a spoon.

Davine S. a year agoStorytime: My sister works in the medical field and once had a patient - a little girl of about 5 - who couldn’t swallow solid food. The reason was purely psychological: she had previously had pureed food after a procedure (tracheotomy), and had never been able to handle solid food after that period. She was being fed through a tube in her stomach, it got so severe. The lesson is: if you start introducing a habit like this without medical cause, you’re running the risk of it becoming a crutch for the kid. I’m all for bonding an’ all, but this is just too damn much.

I’m 5 mos. pregnant and someone just posted this on my birth forum, and I have to tell you that all of us pregnant moms are horrified by this! So gross! Also, once food goes in my mouth, it’s mine! Not sharing!
