12. On TV, you have no choice

It's as if Stalin himself set up this system where only one network broadcasts 98 events in 15 disciplines of 7 sports. And does it badly. That's a big reason why we're online.

11. Compromises leave no one happy

Due to time constraints, nobody gets to enjoy a sporting event he loves in entirety.

Compromises-shmopromises! I want every second of my biathlon! Put it on ESPN 7?

10. NBC's editors choose form over substance

The Sochi opening ceremony on NBC was missing a torch relay and a mascots segments, the olympic oaths weren't shown, and IOC President Thomas Bach's references to discrimination and equality were removed, perpetuating the myth that IOC doesn't care about discrimination.

9. NBC's anchors know little about sports

In 2012, the Opening Ceremony commentary of Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer was criticized as "ignorant" and "banal." Now Lauer is filling in for Costas, who's also no expert on skiathlon or speedskating. The addition of Vladimir Posner, who couldn't care less about sports, to the NBC crew only exacerbates this problem.

8. NBC is way behind the globe in Paralympics coverage

In 2012, no live paralympic event was shown by NBC. It's not as lucrative, so NBC doesn't care for it. But why not offer a smaller network the chance to let Paralympians shine before a national audience once in 2 years?

7. The commercials are awful. The whole army of them.

NBC has made more than a billion dollars thanks to our watching their countless hours of ads, which are terrible. Where is Bob Dylan when you need him?

I just watched a speed skating competition on a Spanish channel, which showed ten 1-minute races with no commercial interruption. It was a more pleasant experience than watching NBC even though the Spanish commentator had a major problem pronouncing German and Russian last names.

6. They love a good scandal

A good scandal will trump a good sports story for NBC. Entertainment 101.

If every second of the broadcast costs a fortune, why does NBC show so much non-sports tape? Put the teary-eyed stories on Lifetime, and stick to the sports!

4. Personality cults have taken over sportsmanship

I barely caught a glimpse of Ole Einar Bjørndalen's belief-defying 12th Olympic medal (a gold, at 41 yo!). Bjørndalen is now the joint-most successful Winter Olympian in history, but his story is trumped by the heart-break of Bode Miller's podium miss.

Americans love and root for American athletes, but it shouldn't stop us from celebrating the unbelievable achievements of one-of-a-kind foreign competitors like Bjørndalen. It's his last Olympics, NBC!

3. Where's the interactive component?

It's 2014, NBC. Listen to your viewers: we're already scouting the web for BBC, Russian sports channels, and CBC.

2. They re-run the broadcast several times a night

So the prime time coverage is repeated several times during the night. Why?

Instead, NBC should use the talk show formula and cover less popular sports at a later time, so that people can stay up or TiVo them. It could also give a chance for editors to experiment with the tape and show different sports. Carson Daly can cover the 2 AM slot.

No matter how many business arguments there are, there's got to be a way for NBC to continue making loads of money without sucking so very, very badly.

But it won't change. NBC research chief Alan Wurtzel stands his ground: "Look, you cannot go nine hours and not hear about results but apparently, for most viewers, it just doesn’t matter.Forty-four percent said they heard results on Saturday prior to Sunday but it had no impact."
