Reckless Abandonment Pictures takes to the skies in its latest endeavor, a music video for the O Fidelis song “Up and Away,” as featured in the feature teen superhero film “The Posthuman Project.”

“The Posthuman Project” is available for preorder on iTunes, releasing on May 1 on VOD. Ain’t It Cool News calls the film “...a superhero origin story à la John Hughes... impressive...worth seeing,” while Moviepilot.com says the movie is “the best indie- styled superhero film” of the year.

For “Up and Away,” director Kyle Roberts and his crew launched a camera 100,000 feet into the air in order to capture the otherworldly feelings of the song.

“After preparing for months for our first launch, it ended up landing on a military base,” Roberts said. “So I may or may not be on on some sort of government watch list. That was the start of our journey making this music video.”

The second attempt met with more success. The rig successfully reached it’s 100,000 feet altitude and landed without incident near Checotah, OK.

“On a wide angle lens like a GoPro, 100,000 feet looks like outer space!” Roberts said. “We built in a parachute so after the weather balloon popped it would land safely back down. Our rig had a GPS unit on it so we could track it on its 127 mile journey.”

The results are breathtaking. Even if Roberts would rather not repeat the experience.

“We freaking hiked up a mountain together with all of their instruments to get those performance shots!” Roberts said. “That was an ordeal to say the least!”

O Fidelis was a perfect choice to record the original song, as the group is all about storytelling. This Americana folk group from Oklahoma City is the embodiment of musical things that make you smile. O Fidelis got its start in 2008, combining the versatile talents of Brian and Laney Gililland to create a sound that is totally their own, and quickly becoming a favorite among their growing fan base. Brian and Laney are both accomplished singer songwriters and multi-instrumentalists. During a typical show, they will play guitar, ukulele, banjo, keyboards, glock, drums, hand percussion, and take turns singing lead and harmony vocals. Along the way, other musicians sometime join them on stage to create an even bigger sound, but there’s no question Brian and Laney are the magic that is O Fidelis. In 2009, they released their first EP, simply titled "O Fidelis". This featured fan favorites "Happy Song #2" and "Tae In the Wynn", both of which have gone on to be featured in various independent films. In 2011, they began work on their debut full length album, entitled "Bible Promises and Dinosaurs".

“The Posthuman Project” features 13 licensed tracks in the film, including Ellen breakout artist Greyson Chance, classic-era rock n’ roll phenomenon JD McPherson, and indie crowd pleaser Cloud Cult.

“The Soundtrack is a vital part to the film’s success,” Roberts said. “Like any good teen movie the soundtrack had to be something that carried the film.”

The film was directed by Roberts and stars Kyle Whalen, Collin Place, Lindsay Sawyer, Alexandra Harris, Josh Bonzie and Rett Terrell. Producers include Vahid Farzaneh, Wendy Parker, Sha’ree Green, Matthew Price and Sterling Gates; John Scamehorn and Roberts are executive producers.
