Prepare To Come A Cropper Watching Corrie Tomorrow

Hayley dies by euthanasia with Roy's help. National Grid prepares for EMP disruption caused by mass nose-blowing.

So you know the Croppers, Roy and Hayley?

For nearly 16 years they've been the anorak Posh and Becks of Weatherfield

Their love story hasn't been 'the norm' by soap standards. For starters, Roy is as unlikely a romantic stud as you can imagine on British television.

But, more importantly, Hayley was a transgender woman (born Harold Pattinson) - a first for British soap operas.

Despite all the obstacles, love slowly blossomed between the pair...

...They had a wedding blessing in 1999...

They've also had to overcome a lot since their relationship started in 1998...

...including Roy being drugged by vile Tracy Langton-Barlow-Preston-Cropper-McDonald and then being blackmailed by her after being made to think he impregnanted her during a one night stand

...and heartbreak when Hayley discovered she had a son Christian - who wanted nothing to do with her once he learned the truth about her life.

But the Croppers have always come through the worst - and celebrated their love with a now-legal marriage in 2010

But then, last year Hayley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - and soon learned it was terminal

...And as her condition has deteriorated over the last few weeks, Hayley decided to end her own life, rather than suffer further and possibly even revert back to her former male self.

Husband Roy isn't fully behind the decision - and, in reality, the public seems equally torn on the issue of Hayley's euthanasia.

...On the same day as 'The Mirror' above, 'The Sun' also published a Hayley splash covering another angle on the debate.

Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh has been out in front of the public debate on the topic too - as evidenced in this interview in yesterday's Guardian.

Today's Observer continues to tussle with the rights and wrongs of portraying a euthanasia storyline in a popular soap.

All that Corrie fans know is that we're going to feel as bereft and lost as poor Roy looks here once Hayley is gone.

    So ta-ra chuck...
