If bosses paid the living wage, collectively we would be £6.6 billion better off. Plus, better paid workers feel valued and fair pay employers have a better company reputation - working together to make the world more awesome.

Earning more money means we can go out and BUY STUFF. So together we can boost our country’s economy like total heroes.

If everyone can go out and spend a bit more, all the shops and services will be better off too. Inequality is bad for business anyway, and fairer pay means you’re likely to be a more productive employee. A win-win situation all round, really.

A living wage would put literally billions of taxpayers’ money back into the economy (£3.3 billion, to be precise), because more than half of the million people earning the minimum wage wouldn’t be relying on benefits to top up their wages to afford basic things like heating. Warmer AND richer!

Paying the living wage would bring 5.2 million people out of working poverty, and would be a step towards stamping out other employment ills like zero hour contracts. Big thumbs up to that.

Britain has the sixth biggest economy in the world and a statutory living wage would put £4.2 billion back into the Treasury. With 1 in 5 minimum wage workers turning to food banks, we are in desperate need of a pay rise. The living wage is the answer and the government could do it tomorrow…what are they waiting for?!

Seriously...

In a ground-breaking Unite poll nearly 60% of minimum wage workers said they were trapped in poverty pay with more than 1 in 3 not able to afford to shop where they work. The 'double squeeze' of stagnating wages and the rising cost of living has meant people are working harder and getting poorer.
