Petros the Pelican

Petros the pelican is an old celebrity on the island, and was the designated mascot since he was nursed back to life in 1954. Unfortunately he passed away in 1986, but the locals and tourists were so distraught, they found his predecessor and the pelican’s tradition carried on. Today Mykonos is not home to one pelican but many, all enchanting and charismatic, attracting their fans with their unique personalities. They are usually seen around the island’s waterfront and harbour, but it is not unusual to bump into them while walking through the streets of Chora.

Lena’s House is my favourite amongst all the museums found on the island. Lena’s House is actually a replica of a typical 19th century Mykonion household. There you will view furniture, kitchen items, clothing and other decorative items used in a normal household during the 19th century. It is always very interesting to see, first hand, how people’s lives have changed and progressed through the passage of time!

Mykonos is my personal favourite holiday destination in the entire world. To me, Mykonos is magical. The island offers its curious visitors a whole new world to experience. I am always amazed by the Cycladic whitewashed buildings, cobble-stoned alleys, colourful streets all exuding a certain flair I have yet to pinpoint exactly. Mykonos is my haven.
