    The Power Of Memories

We all have them. When was the last time you really embraced them?

Memory is an incredibly powerful thing. Preserving some of our happiest moments, (and yes, some of our worst), it is the foundation upon which we forever base our experiences.

The smell of sagebrush will forever take me back to summer days spent on the back of a horse, riding miles of trails for hours on end.

A few opening lines to one of Kenny Chesney's songs and I'm back in 2002, sitting in the car with my brother after my best friend was sent to the hospital.

See a bottle of Tamber Bey wine and it's a night just a few months ago. I'm with one of my best friends in a great little restaurant/grocer in Orinda, California, enjoying a great dinner and appreciating the company.

And yes, when the gas light comes on in my car I remember that day in Utah when my best friend and I were certain we were going to run out of gas. 20 miles from the nearest station. With no cell service. (What an adventure that would've been).

Our memories are made up of our most valuable experiences. Memory, it changes over time, replacing was actually happened with our emotional connections.

Some moments fall away, lost forever to our voluntary recall. Others are always there, running in the background of our day-to-day adventures.

Past events, those that eventually become our memories, are what shape us.

They all play a part in who we become: our personality, our values, our interests, our likes and dislikes.

Memories serve as a road map of who we are.

They remind us why we are who we are.

    Where we came from.

And why it is we just keep pushing on...
