    A History Of Vocal Reality Show Contestants From Minnesota

    As Minnesotans vote and await the outcome of Kat Perkin's journey this season on The Voice, let's take a look back at the history of some infamous former reality show singers from the land of 10,000 lakes.

    American Idol-Paris Bennett-Season 5 (Top 5)

    Paris Bennett comes from a family of singers, her mother was a member of vocal ensemble Sounds of Blackness. Paris was raised in Edina and is to this day the only Top 5 contestant in 13 seasons from Minnesota. She released her album Princess P in 2007 and she had a daughter in 2008.

    Casey Carlson-Season 8

    Carlson, an Eden Prairie native, was was the talk of the town in MN in 2008. The Gopher State had attained a very popular and promising Top 30 contestant from The U of M. Unfortunately, Casey was cut from the show after a disappointing version of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Today, she is in LA pursuing music.

    This Minnesota native sang her way into the Top 36 on American idol alongside Carlson back in 2009, almost making it into the Top 12 before being voted off. Sister of musician Jonny Lang, Langseth is known better for what happened Post-Idol: she was arrested for an outstanding Anoka County Warrant in 2009. According to an article from twincities.com "The Anoka County warrant was issued in 2007 after she failed to appear in court...The 26-year-old was originally cited with driving after suspension and fraudulent use of license tabs or plates."

    Zoanette Johnson-Season 12

    Zoanette grew up in Minnesota before moving to Oklahoma. Zoanette auditioned for American idol by singing The Star Spangled Banner. Her wild and eccentric personality gave her a golden ticket to Hollywood, where she impressed the judges during Hollywood week. She made the Top 20 but was cut before making it to the Top 10.

    The Voice-Nicolas David-Season 3 (Top 3)

    Nicholas, an Eagan native, came in 3rd place on the 3rd season of The Voice, after landing a spot on judge Cee lo Green's team and charming the judges with the song "You Are So Beautiful To Me" by Joe Cocker. He is currently working on his next album at home in MN.

    This Minnetonka native's The Voice audition not only turned all four judges chairs, it also sent the singer's recording of "The Scientist" to the top of the iTunes charts. Unfortunately, she didn't make it to the finals. However, she recently released an EP, continues running a YouTube channel and recorded a song for a local Minneapolis TV station for the 2014 Olympics.

    Ashley Dubose-Season 5

    From St. Paul, Dubose wowed the judges with her rendition of Rihanna's Diamonds back in 2013. She, like Henry, turned around all four of the judges chairs. She and Henry both exited during the knock out rounds.

    The X-Factor-Tim Olstad Season 3 (Top 10)

    Winona native Tim Olstad auditioned for The X-Factor in Denver in 2013. He was mentored on the show by Mexican star Paulina Rubio. He finished in 9th place. He is currently working on recording new music.

    This male Acapella five-some (Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Chris Rupp, Tim Foust and Adam Rupp) won Season 4 in 2013. They won $100,000 and a recording contract with Sony. Their first album "Crazy Life" was released in 2014.

    Two-time Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes got her start at the Children's Theatre company in Minneapolis and at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre in Chanhassen before snagging the role of Sandy on the NBC reality show Grease: You're The One That I Want! in 2007. She later starred on Broadway in South Pacific, Anything Goes, and in her Tony nominated performances as Cinderella in Cinderella and Bonnie in Bonnie & Clyde.
