Having scene this show in it’s entirety already, I think it’s pretty clearly presented that Jonah is a “bad” kid and acts up because his family has never healed from his mother’s death. At no point did it suggest that his behavior is because of his heritage. I’ve always thought the Jonah character was one of the most well rendered and fleshed out Lilley characters (especially compared to Jen Okazaki, who yeah, is 100% shrewish caricature), and as an educator, I think his storyline is a very emotional and relatable one. I do admit though that I typically like Chris Lilley’s work,so I’m biased (though Ja’mie was pretty bad, and this show wasn’t as good as SHH).
